The new carrier Ethernet network built by Telco Systems for Kenya Education Network initially provides internet access and data center interconnectivity to all the universities and research institutes in Kenya. Kenya Education Network’s new network could eventually be extended to provide connectivity to other educational institutions, including the primary and secondary schools in the country.

The Ethernet network is managed and orchestrated by Telco Systems EdgeGenie Orchestrator management system, which gives control over the service provisioning processes. The new network is also based on Telco Systems T-Metro 8001 10 Gigabit Ethernet service aggregation platforms and T-Marc 3348S 10 Gigabit Ethernet demarcation devices, providing Kenya Education Network with certified CE 2.0 services based on VPLS. The new carrier Ethernet network deployed by Telco Systems replaces Kenya Education Network’s previously used Layer 3 transport network.

This new network provides Kenya Education Network with greater bandwidth to support more traffic and better serve its education and research institution customers with superior levels of service level agreement commitments and improved traffic engineering possibilities.

“Telco Systems impressive track record of delivering solid and affordable communications networking technology attracted us to working with the company,” said Professor Meoli Kashorda, Executive Director of Kenya Education Network. “We are confident that Telco Systems and its technology will support our growth plans and contribute to helping us fulfill our mission of providing high quality communications services to all the educational institutions in our country.”
