Joe Ndala is Africa Finance Director at AECOM

Joe Ndala is the Finance Director, Africa at AECOM South Africa. AECOM is a fully integrated professional and technical services firm. It designs, builds, finances and operates infrastructure assets around the world for public and private sector clients. AECOM understands Africa’s specific infrastructure needs, together with the inherent challenges of working on the continent.

Its multi-disciplinary teams of award-winning engineers, planners, architects, environmental specialists, economists, scientists, consultants, cost, project and programme managers are committed to delivering projects that improve the quality of life of communities throughout Africa.

Ndala leads, plans, directs and influences multiple functions within finance in the region. He is a strategic business partner along with the Africa CEO, senior executives, and business unit managing directors.

He develops, improves and implements financial strategies, compliance, techniques, processes and procedures. He is responsible for ensuring budget and schedules meet corporate requirements and standards, both local and international.

He started work in 1992 in an engineering firm as a project administrator and trained to become a project accountant. He later became a business partner for a project management firm since 2006. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant from UK and a Masters of Accounting and Finance Management from Bristol.

He avoids stress at work by keeping free space in his diary to reflect, talking with colleagues about soccer, and minimising back-to-back meetings. He delegates and does not relinquish responsibilities with a clear expected outcome, avoids reworks and late surprises, and plans activities ahead of time. He prefers walking to his team for face to face discussions rather than using emails, resulting in less ambiguity.

Ndala is a husband and father of two children. He loves watching soccer and socialising with family, friends and colleagues. Chatting with his children while driving to school and exercising are other favourites.
