ESET East Africa has set up a free online training for businesses in Kenya in a move to educate employees while enabling firms to curb the impact of cyberattacks and data breaches that are becoming more severe to business operations around the world.
A recent survey by ESET in its North American markets found that more than 30% of people polled have never received any cyber training or education in their workplace, even though majority of cyber breaches are caused by employee errors and omissions.
About 52% of data and information security breaches globally are caused by human error, pointing to a glaring need for cybesecurity training and awareness within organisations. On the other hand, cybersecurity training can cost hundreds of thousands of shillings per person, depending on topics, company size and subscription plans offered.
Earlier this year, Teddy Njoroge, Country Manager ESET East Africa, said the company will explore joint opportunities with like-minded partners and contribute assets in developing innovative cybersecurity solutions targeting both blue chip businesses and small and medium enterprises over the next one year.
IT professionals, small business owners and others can sign up to access the modules anytime online. Modules in the ESET Cybersecurity Awareness Training include: web and email protection, how to spot phishing emails, password best practices, social engineering, two-factor authentication and Internet of things (IoT) security.
All topics in the training are core and need to know for all employees. They are explained in user-friendly language and can be completed in under 90 minutes. On completion employees will be expected to report to their manager and receive a certificate of completion.
ESET East Africa, is a recognised Internet security solutions company with over 118 operational offices across the world. Additionally, estimates indicate that Kenya has just about 1,000 certified cybersecurity specialists, significantly lower than the optimal 40,000 needed.
