Nokia collaborates with Egypt’s MCIT to develop digital skills

Nokia is collaborating with a number of organisations to provide training to local talent in Egypt.

Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) have been signed aimed at supporting the Egyptian Government’s efforts to use new technology approaches for enhancing economic growth.

Nokia and Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT)’s have signed two MoUs to provide local skill-building and employment opportunities to support the country’s Digital Transformation efforts.

As part of the MoU, Nokia and Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), MCIT’s sector development and innovation arm, will jointly conduct a yearly innovation competition hackathon with Nokia Bell Labs. Nokia will also provide software development internships to give talented Egyptians opportunities to gain first-hand job experience.

Further, Nokia and ITIDA will conduct collaborative activities in the fields of telecommunication, software enablement and innovation and capacity building in 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and network security. The two organisations will also share best practices in the areas of skills and capacity building, innovation and the development of Small and Medium Enterprises.

Nokia and the Information Technology Institute (ITI), the learning and capacity building wing of MCIT, will work together to develop in-house undergraduate and graduate training programmes.

Nokia and ITI will work towards the following goals:

  • The two entities will work together as part of the Egyptian Universities Students Program to provide three-months of job shadowing opportunities for graduates from Delta, Upper Egypt, Suez Canal and Great Cairo universities. Nokia and ITI will also offer one-month campus training boot camps for undergraduate students from the universities mentioned above.
  • Visiting sessions, career consultation demos and field visits to Nokia’s premises will further provide a unique opportunity to the students to benefit from interacting with world-class professionals.
  • Nokia and ITI will together develop online learning and content development for high demand jobs and training content related to Nokia. The two organisations will also jointly organise online courses and face-to-face workshop sessions to bring new and exciting opportunities for the country’s youth.

HE Eng. Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said: “We are committed to our vision of developing Egypt as a prominent global ICT player. We are confident that the agreements signed today with Nokia will be extremely beneficial for the country’s youth and help us in developing competencies in the emerging technologies. Such collaborations with technology leaders will enable us to propel our efforts to foster talent for the new technologies.”
