EDP Renováveis opens new wind farm in Galicia, Spain

EDP Renováveis has opened a new wind farm in Galicia, Northern Spain, increasing the company’s installed capacity within the region, to 281MW. Muxia wind farm comprises 34 wind turbines with 2MW each, which makes for a total of 68MW of installed power capacity – enough to supply around 70,000 homes per year.

The opening of the wind farm was attended by the President of the Autonomous Community of Galicia, Alberto, Núñez Feijóo; the Mayor of Muxia, Félix Porto; the CEO of EDP Renováveis, João Manso Neto; and the Chief Executive of EDP Renováveis España, Rocío Sicre.

With this new investment, EDP Renováveis’ installed capacity in Galicia now accounts for more than 10% of the company’s operation in Spain. The company’s overall installed capacity in the country amounts to 2312MW.

Once in full operation, Muxia wind farm will allow the company to inject clean energy into the grid, which will prevent the emission of over 4 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the 30-year concession period.
