CAD software in South Africa facing piracy according to Technavio

The CAD market in South Africa is facing the huge challenge of piracy. Software piracy is increasing at a higher rate in South Africa. An organisation called South African Federation against Copyright Theft was formed in South Africa to harness the increased growth of piracy in South Africa. Also, the growth of commercial aircraft in Southern Africa is slowing down. Aerosud, an aircraft designing and manufacturing company based in South Africa, uses Dassault Systemes for PLM solutions.

Africa has a much lower share in the CAD software market in the aerospace and defence industry, in comparison to Europe and Middle East. One of the major end-users of CAD solutions for the aerospace and defence industry in Africa is South Africa.

The CAD market in the aerospace and defence industry in Europe was valued at $484.75M in 2014 and is expected to reach $602.23M by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 4.44%. The major countries in Europe include the UK, Germany, France, and other European countries like Russia, Austria, Finland, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey and Sweden.

“France, which has the presence of some of the largest aerospace and defence companies in the world, including Airbus Group, Dassault Aviation, Safran, and Arianespace, is the largest player in Europe,” says Amrita Choudhury, a lead research analyst at Technavio for product lifecycle management.

Airbus, an aircraft designing and manufacturing company based in France, uses Dassault Systemes for 3D designing and manufacturing engineering. One of the major countries that drives the CAD market in the aerospace and defence industry in the Middle East is Israel. Israel has a well-developed defence system and aircraft with highly sophisticated technologies. The country exports many of its defence products to various foreign markets.

Saudi Arabia was the largest country in the Middle East in terms of the military expenditure in 2012. The country was ranked 7th in the global rankings. Saudi Arabia has a dynamic aerospace industry because of its increasing population and growth in tourism.

Another major player in the CAD market in the aerospace industry in the Middle East is Turkey. The aerospace and defence industry in Turkey has shown considerable growth during the past few years.
