Kaspersky, a cybersecurity company is embarking on a partnership with the Institute of Chartered IT Professionals (ICITP) to help develop and empower IT professionals in South Africa and Africa by becoming accredited with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
The certifications will be recognised professional qualifications and registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
With the universal talent gap and shortage of IT professionals trained specifically in cybersecurity in Africa, the need in officially recognised educational programmes is a growing problem in the region.
The training will be offered to companies, municipal entities and governments in the region who are willing to invest in a qualification for their employees as part of their risk compliance coverage. There is a small fee for each accreditation should companies choose to accept the accreditation with the solutions which will contribute to their NGO.
“There is currently a shortage of skills in cybersecurity in Africa, all other training solutions is either too expensive for wide coverage or it is just a certificate that cannot be measured against a local education authority. Also, there is no educational standard in cybersecurity across South Africa. This means with our solution we are addressing the skills shortage by offering a solution that can be accepted as a standard in cybersecurity,” said Reshenn Dhewnarian, Enterprise Cybersecurity Strategist, Kaspersky Africa.
The training will be applicable to all areas of the market including private and public sector, education bodies, SMB and enterprise.
