MTN Nigeria has officially launched the Dabengwa Data and Cloud Centre in Lagos, now the largest data centre in West Africa. The US$150 million tier-3 facility is designed to serve a diverse range of clients, from startups and software developers to content creators and large organisations including banks, oil companies, and government agencies. Among its first clients are the Abia State government and Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.
Named in honour of Mr Sifiso Dabengwa, former Group Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, the centre is set to accelerate Nigeria’s digital economy by meeting growing demands and fostering innovation. With an initial power capacity of 4.5 megawatts and the ability to scale up to 14 megawatts within the next 24 months, the facility matches the capabilities of global hyperscale providers, allowing Nigerian businesses to keep their data within the country and reducing reliance on foreign platforms.
The opening of the Dabengwa Data and Cloud Centre represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s Digital Transformation journey. By supporting innovation, strengthening data sovereignty, and enhancing infrastructure, the centre positions Nigeria as the digital backbone of West Africa. Its advanced features and strategic location in Lagos make it a cornerstone of the region’s technology ecosystem, poised to drive growth and increase competitiveness for Nigerian businesses.
