{"id":20794,"date":"2018-08-10T10:20:03","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T09:20:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/?p=20794"},"modified":"2018-08-10T10:20:03","modified_gmt":"2018-08-10T09:20:03","slug":"dimension-data-announces-winners-of-tour-de-france-coding-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/2018\/08\/10\/dimension-data-announces-winners-of-tour-de-france-coding-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Dimension Data announces winners of Tour de France coding competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dimension Data has announced the winner of its record-breaking Tour de France-inspired coding competition<em> Le Code to France<\/em>, a brand-new initiative aimed at engaging its 30,000 global employees and driving innovative ideas that can be implemented during future Tours.<\/p>\n<p>The winning team, called <em>Mark Codendish<\/em> after Team Dimension Data\u2019s illustrious sprint cyclist, created a fantasy cycling game to challenge the company\u2019s machine learning predictor.<\/p>\n<p>Although the competition was originally aimed at engineers and developers within the Dimension Data family, over 120 employees entered, with notable entries including an augmented reality visualisation of each race stage and a chatbot that could answer live questions about what\u2019s happening during a cycling race.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Gray, Senior Director of the Sports Practice \u2013 Technology at Dimension Data said, \u201cLe Code to France is a fantastic initiative that allows us to bring a new angle to our employee engagement efforts around the Tour de France.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has encouraged colleagues to come together and share ideas from different business units across multiple regions and has been a great way to highlight the innovation running within Dimension Data.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Douglas Waddilove, part of the winning team alongside Alexander Pienaar, Trevan Lott and Nihal Somers, added: \u201cWe saw an opportunity to increase client experiences at the Tour de France through gamification, and came up with an idea which incorporated machine learning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though our team wasn\u2019t strong in the technical aspect, Le Code to France has inspired a technical drive in each of us.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dimension Data has announced the winner of its record-breaking Tour de France-inspired coding competition Le Code to France, a brand-new initiative aimed at engaging its 30,000 global employees and driving innovative ideas that can be implemented during future Tours.
