The Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) has partnered with CASIO Middle East FZE to train mathematics and science trainers across Kenya using the newly modernised and effective scientific calculators.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis partnership with CASIO Middle East FZE will enable us to train teachers on the best ways to use modern teaching equipment to help improve students\u2019 performance in mathematics and science subjects across the country,\u201d said Stephen Njoroge, Director and Secretary of Board of Management, CEMASTEA.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ministry of Education has mandated us to improve science and mathematics teaching in secondary schools,\u201d<\/p>\n
CEMASTEA has been training over 400 mathematics trainers from across the country for the past two years. Njoroge added that they have been running a number programme that targets both secondary and primary school teachers who are trained on the two subjects.<\/p>\n
Presently, they have 1,200 trainers spread across Kenya, who are mandated to train both mathematics and science\u00a0teachers in every primary and secondary school. The training focuses on usage of technology and ICT to improve learners\u2019 ability to solve problems.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe training has also enabled teachers gain additional support ranging from in-depth calculator guides, software tools, classroom-ready materials and video guidance materials,\u201d added Njoroge.<\/p>\n
