{"id":28311,"date":"2019-08-16T12:54:31","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T11:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/?p=28311"},"modified":"2019-08-21T10:59:38","modified_gmt":"2019-08-21T09:59:38","slug":"itec-and-oasis-academy-join-forces-to-open-it-classroom-in-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/2019\/08\/16\/itec-and-oasis-academy-join-forces-to-open-it-classroom-in-uganda\/","title":{"rendered":"ITEC and Oasis Academy join forces to open IT classroom in Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Managed\ntechnology services provider ITEC and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Oasis\nUganda are working together to build an IT container classroom at the Oasis\nAcademy located in Musoto Village, Mbale District; one of the poorest\ncommunities in Eastern Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ITEC will be setting\nup a fully furnished IT classroom with PCs, monitors, a server, projector,\naccessories like keyboards and mice and a good broadband connection. The\ntechnology will be made available to the 150 children being educated at the\nOasis Academy in Musoto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the\nchildren and adults in Musoto have never actively used technology before, which\nis why this project marks a major milestone for the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alvin Muhwezi,\nCountry Director for Oasis Uganda Charitable Trust said: \u201cWe approached ITEC\nbecause they have supported our academies in the UK and continue to be a valued\npartner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey understand\nthe challenges we face in running academies like the one in Mbale \u2013 having only\nrecently been connected to the National Grid \u2013 and have worked hard to find\nsolutions fit for the children and the wider community. In the future, we are\nhoping to expand the IT programme to encourage adults from the village to learn\nnew digital skills for personal development and possible future employment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>William Edibu, who currently works as an IT support volunteer for Oasis Uganda, is to be employed by ITEC as IT Manager responsible for overseeing the new IT classroom project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He completed an IT training programme with Oasis in 2005, under the Net2work project which was designed to help youths develop new skills in the community. Upon completion of that course, he joined Oasis as a volunteer and has over the years supported Oasis and the Academy to build an effective IT system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLearning IT\nskills has been incredibly valuable for me and helped me explore new career\npaths that would otherwise been inaccessible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking\nalongside Oasis and ITEC has given me a great opportunity to help children and\nadults develop new skills, and the new IT classroom will be a valuable asset to\nMbale.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Managed technology services provider ITEC and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Oasis Uganda are working together to build an IT container classroom at the Oasis Academy located in Musoto Village, Mbale District; one of the poorest communities in Eastern Uganda.
