As a result of Industry 4.0\nand its emerging technologies, the constant technological advances and\ninnovations are considered great successes among many industries. First world\ncountries often have the resources they need to keep up with the demands of\nthis so called fourth industrial revolution, but what of the rest of the world?\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The significance and importance of\nkeeping up technological advances is highly evident, particularly within the\nrealm of tertiary education. Afterall, institutions providing tertiary\neducation are the very places that are training and guiding a large percentage\nof the future workforce of South Africa. Acknowledging the importance of\nbringing global technology to South African tertiary education has motivated\nmilestone achievements. One such accomplishment is the recent partnership\nbetween the University of Pretoria (UP) and Eiffel Corp (as the provider of\nModo Campus), to create the UP Mobile\nApp. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Built on the Modo Labs platform, it offers students, staff and\nalumni an \u2018always-on\u2019, localised place to access all necessary and relevant\ninformation with ease. With a dedication to mobility and accessibility, the UP\nApp features unique benefits for students, including: online access to study\nmaterial; navigation of campus grounds using Google Maps; and the power to\nconnect with alumni for advice, support or mentorship, to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For UP, the UP Mobile App empowers\nstaff to access vital operational and HR documents, such as leave information\nand salary slips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Wimpie Beeken, Information\nTechnology Services Capability Development Management at the University of\nPretoria, confirmed that the partnership with Eiffel Corp was carefully\nconsidered and found to be the solution to UP\u2019s needs \u2013 delivering an\naffordable, cloud-based application. According to Dr Beeken, UP chose to\npartner with Eiffel Corp rather than develop its own App, to save both time and\nbudget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur approach was that we\nwould rather purchase than develop something, that was our vision,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we engaged with Eiffel\nCorp and they presented the Modo Labs Solution (Modo Campus), we did a bit of\nour own homework and it showed us that Modo Labs has successfully been used across\nthe globe at other universities.
