{"id":28812,"date":"2019-09-09T09:59:29","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T08:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/?p=28812"},"modified":"2019-09-13T12:24:05","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T11:24:05","slug":"african-development-bank-welcomes-investment-from-the-clean-technology-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/2019\/09\/09\/african-development-bank-welcomes-investment-from-the-clean-technology-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"African Development Bank welcomes investment from the Clean Technology Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Clean Technology Fund (CTF), one of two multi-donor trust funds within the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), has approved US$20 million for the Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI), a facility sponsored by the African Development Bank to provide sustainable financing for small-scale renewables in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FEI is a US$500 million financing platform whose objective is to\ncatalyse financial support for innovative energy access solutions.&nbsp; FEI\nOn-grid, a targeted US$400 million fund, supports improved energy access\nthrough the development of small-scale renewable energy generation and\nmini-grids across Africa, while the Off-Grid Energy Access Fund (OGEF), a\ntargeted US$100 million fund, supports off-grid energy distribution companies\nand boosts their long-term capacity to access capital markets at scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CTF investment, composed of a US$4 million junior equity\ntranche and a US$16 million senior concessional loan,&nbsp;will be drawn from\nthe Dedicated Private Sector Program III, designed to provide risk-appropriate\ncapital to finance high-impact, large-scale private sector projects in clean\ntechnologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAccess to affordable and reliable energy has huge benefits at\nvarious levels of any society,\u201d said Anthony Nyong, Director of Climate Change\nand Green Growth at the African Development Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost of the 600 million people estimated to lack access to\nmodern energy services in Sub-Saharan Africa are also among the most vulnerable\nto the disastrous consequences of climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Clean Technology Fund (CTF), one of two multi-donor trust funds within the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), has approved US$20 million for the Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI), a facility sponsored by the African Development Bank to provide sustainable financing for small-scale renewables in Africa.
