{"id":29096,"date":"2019-09-23T10:33:40","date_gmt":"2019-09-23T09:33:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/?p=29096"},"modified":"2019-09-27T11:10:55","modified_gmt":"2019-09-27T10:10:55","slug":"african-development-banks-sefa-approves-us500k-grant-for-clean-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/2019\/09\/23\/african-development-banks-sefa-approves-us500k-grant-for-clean-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"African Development Bank\u2019s SEFA approves US$500k grant for clean energy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), managed by the\nAfrican Development Bank, has approved a US$500,000 grant to support the\ndevelopment and launch of the Nigeria Energy Access Fund (NEAF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant will support specific\nworkstreams to set NEAF in motion and enhance its engagement with private and\npublic sector investors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNigeria requires bespoke and innovative\nmarket-based solutions to provide its off-grid population, estimated at 100\nmillion, access to sustainable sources of energy,\u201d said Wale Shonibare, the\nBank\u2019s Acting Vice President for Power, Energy, Climate Change and Green Growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe SEFA grant will be instrumental in the constitution of NEAF, and ultimately, the mobilisation of much-needed private sector investment for the sector.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once operational, NEAF is\nexpected to complement the Bank\u2019s wide range of sustainable energy initiatives\ncurrently being implemented in Nigeria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SEFA\u2019s support to NEAF is aligned\nwith the New Deal on Energy for Africa and the Bank\u2019s High 5 priorities,\nespecially \u2018Light Up and Power Africa\u2019 and \u2018Improve the Quality of Lives of\nAfricans.\u2019 The project conforms with the Bank\u2019s Energy Sector Strategy and will\nboost the Nigerian government\u2019s power sector recovery plans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), managed by the African Development Bank, has approved a US$500,000 grant to support the development and launch of the Nigeria Energy Access Fund (NEAF).
