SITA, the global IT\nprovider to the air transport industry, has been selected to provide key\nsystems to support the smooth opening and operation of Algeria\u2019s new\ninternational terminal at Houari Boumediene International Airport. The new\nterminal, which opened to the public in April 2019, is among the first few\nairports in North Africa to use SITA\u2019s Airport Management Solution. Can you go into detail\nabout the Airport Management Solution?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n SITA\u2019s Airport Management Solution (AMS) is a suite\nof integrated software applications designed to effectively manage airport\noperations from the terminal to the airfield enabling airport users to\ncentrally manage everything from passenger processing, baggage handling to the\nreal-time allocation of fundamental resources across the terminal. SITA AMS\nconsists of the following software applications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n SITA AMS is equipped with\npowerful reporting tools that help tracking the infrastructure, capacity and\nresource constraints and generate customised reports for the specific\nrequirements of airport decision makers at all levels and covering all areas of\noperations performance throughout the airport. In addition, SITA\u2019s automated\naeronautical billing systems collect data from all sources operating inside an\nairport and enable a cost effective and highly accurate revenue collection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In Algeria, key systems\nfrom SITA AMS suite have been selected to support the smooth opening and\noperations management of Algeria\u2019s new international terminal at Houari\nBoumediene International Airport. The new terminal, which opened to the public\nin April 2019, is among the first airports in North Africa to use the latest\ngeneration of SITA\u2019s Airport Management Solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How has it benefited Houari\nBoumediene International Airport?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Houari Boumediene\nInternational Airport has witnessed average growth in traffic of 13% since\n2011. This rapid growth in passenger numbers remains one of the main challenges\nfacing the airport, and the airport authority were looking for a way to better\nmanage every aspect of its operation in a more integrated, streamlined way both\nin the terminal and on the ramp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is in the control room of the airport where SITA\nsystems will deliver the biggest benefit to the airport. The airport operations\nteam will have access to real-time data to better anticipate, plan and control\nthe airport\u2019s operations. This will give the airport a better overview of all\nactivities across the new terminal, resulting in proactive and coordinated\ndecision-making. <\/p>\n\n\n\n By processing data in real\ntime, SITA AMS helps optimise the efficiency of an airport by reducing\ndisruptions ahead of time. The solution provides support for the entire\noperational flight planning and management processes with strategic, tactical\nand daily scheduling, improving overall business results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n How many other airports use\nthis technology? Have there been any other airports in Africa that have\ndeployed the solution?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are 150 deployments of SITA Airport Management Solution (AMS)\nglobally. This includes over 90 airports, 50 airports using ground handling,\nnine multi-airport environments, and eight airlines. Together, their operations\nrepresent 500 million passengers annually, resulting from 4.6 million flight\nmovements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The deployment in Algiers is one of the first in Africa with our\nsolution also implemented in several Egyptian airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What has been the feedback\nso far at Houari Boumediene International Airport and how long did it take to\nimplement the solution? What software was used?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The feedback from Houari Boumediene International Airport has been very\npositive from the executive management and key airport operators, resulting in\nfurther solutions to be deployed to the international Terminal 1. Allocating\nthe right resources has proven to be the key driver in delivering the project\nsuccessfully and in a timely manner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In general terms, what is\naviation technology like in Algeria? What improvements need to be made and what\nare the current trends in the country?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Algeria has more than 35 regional and international airports, with\nAlgiers attracting most of the focus being the main gateway to the country. We\nbelieve that technical modernisation can significantly benefit many other\nAlgerian airports, bringing these regional and international airports across\nthe country to the same world-class standards we see at Houari Boumediene.
