As part of its strategy to help reduce the digital divide and\nempower local communities with computer skills and access to information, Paratus\nZambia has agreed to refurbish the computer lab at Musonda Community School in\nKitwe. This project will be done in partnership with Partners for Life\nAdvancement and Education Promotion (PLAEP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paratus is helping these children harness the many opportunities\nwith the provision of a fully connected computer lab. Besides a permanent 2Mbps\nInternet link, Paratus will be donating a printer and an additional 10\ncomputers that will ensure increased user time per student. Currently there are\nonly 20 computers that cater for 700 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Paratus realises that computer literacy is no longer a\nluxury, but an essential skill for future generations,\u201d said Marius van Vuuren,\nParatus Telecom Zambia Country Manager. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cParatus functions in a connected society and makes a strong\ncontribution to society through different platforms.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PLAEP Executive Director Prisca Kambole added: \u201cThere are nearly\n700 children at this school with about 20% being orphans and over 90% come from\npoor homes where using a computer is unimaginable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith this generosity from Paratus, no one will be left behind at\nMusonda School. Paratus is ensuring the basic human right of access to\neducation, something that can be achieved through computer literacy. This is\nvery commendable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Van Vuuren says Paratus engages in meaningful partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis facility is not only helping with computer literacy but\ngiving the recipients access to a world of information via our reliable Internet\nservices,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInternet is a vital tool in education, it provides a wealth of\nknowledge that can inspire young minds to not only become productive members of\nthe community but open them up to new opportunities. Our aim is\nto empower these children by providing them with some of the skills necessary\nto succeed in our modern and increasingly tech-based world.
