SE-listed technology company\nAltron, through its Rest of Africa operations, has partnered with Pascal\nTechnologies to provide a seamless and integrated payment system for motorcycle\npublic transport services in Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In terms of the deal, Altron is\nsupplying the infrastructure comprising of payment terminals, GPS devices and\nmounting units, while Pascal Technologies is supplying the software application\nthat enables mobile money transfers and tap-and-pay payments. The terminal\nenables payments while the GPS device calculates distance and the fee payable\nby motorcycle passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Altron Rest of Africa Managing Director\nIke Dube said: \u201cWe will supply hard-wearing, cost effective devices, while\nPascal Technologies will provide the software solution to facilitate\nmobile-money and bank card transactions, which will enable seamless payment for\nmotorcycle transport services by commuters, thus transforming their everyday\nexperience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Pascal Technologies\nfounder and Managing Director Pascal Ndizeye added: \u201cThe deal will help the\nRwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority progress towards the country\u2019s broader\nnational goal of having a cashless society. This is also aligned to a cabinet\ndecision to monitor motorcycle operators for safety purposes. The business\nopportunity is vast. Rwanda has more than 50,000 motorcycle operators\ntransporting commuters, with each operator clocking up to 50 trips a day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initial rollout is for 10,000\nunits, valued at about RWF 2 billion (R31 million) and is envisaged to increase\nto 36000 devices valued at RWF 18 billion (R279 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
