{"id":30772,"date":"2019-12-09T10:37:43","date_gmt":"2019-12-09T10:37:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/?p=30772"},"modified":"2019-12-13T10:59:18","modified_gmt":"2019-12-13T10:59:18","slug":"safaricom-and-kbl-partner-to-connect-coolers-across-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/africa\/2019\/12\/09\/safaricom-and-kbl-partner-to-connect-coolers-across-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"Safaricom and KBL partner to connect coolers across Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Safaricom has officially announced a partnership with Kenya\nBreweries Limited (KBL) to connect and enhance its coolers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The connected coolers are wired with sensors which leverage on the Internet of Things (IoT) \u2013 the inter-networking of \u2018smart\u2019 devices that collect and exchange data. They will be provided free of charge to retailers and outlets countrywide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jane Karuku, Managing Director, Kenya Breweries Limited said:\n\u201cOver the years, we have been looking to bring more efficiencies in our\nroute-to-consumer channels and we have found technology to be a critical\nenabler. As we move towards improving our cutting-edge our technology in\nmanufacturing and logistics, we are redoubling our efforts in our marketplace\nas well, to ensure that consumers enjoy our products the way they should. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis project will also enable us extend our capability to\ntrack and invest in coolers and we hope that our existing products and\ninnovations will reach consumers with minimal cost, delays and wastage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the launch, Rita Okuthe, Chief Enterprise\nBusiness Officer, Safaricom PLC, said: \u201cWe developed an IoT solution that\nconsists of devices installed in the coolers that will have sensors which will\ntransmit various data to a platform which generates business insights that will\nassist KBL to optimise the coolers. For instance, EABL distributors can now\ntell where their assets are located, if the assets are in use or not (on\/off),\nwhether the assets are at the optimal temperature and how many times the door\nof the cooler is opened. Over 2,000 coolers are already connected\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead to 2020, Safaricom aims to be a digital\npartner of choice for businesses by providing solutions that improve the\nefficiency with which they do business, saving them money and therefore\ncreating additional value for their end-users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the connected coolers project, EABL is already\npartnering Safaricom in driving a cashless payment model among its\ndistributors, who now transact on M-PESA when dealing with retailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safaricom is also planning to bring valuable solutions by\nleveraging on IoT to deliver smart water metering and animal tracking system.\nThe new Internet of Things (IoT) network will tap into the Safaricom existing\n4G network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first half of the financial year 2019\/2020, Safaricom\ninvested KES 17 billion in infrastructure by increased network rollout and\nacceleration of broadband and fibre deployment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Safaricom has officially announced a partnership with Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) to connect and enhance its coolers.
