Our latest\nsolutions in silicon, optics and software\nrepresent the\ncontinued innovation we&#8217;re driving that helps our customers stay ahead of the\ncurve and create new, ground-breaking experiences for their customers and end\nusers for decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Building blocks\nfor the Internet for the future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the next decade, digital experiences will be created with advanced technologies &#8211; Virtual and Augmented Reality, 16K streaming, AI, 5G, quantum computing, adaptive and predictive cybersecurity, intelligent IoT, and others not yet invented. These future generations of applications will drive complexity beyond the capabilities current Internet infrastructure can viably support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For\nthe past five years, Cisco has driven a technology strategy that is building\nthe Internet our customers will need for the future success of their business\nin an advanced digital world. Aimed at solving the toughest problems that will\nemerge as Digital Transformation taxes current infrastructure to its breaking\npoint, this strategy will lead to the next-generation of Internet\ninfrastructure that combines Cisco\u2019s new silicon architecture with its\nnext-generation of optics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cisco\u2019s\nstrategy will change the economics behind how the Internet will be built to\nsupport the demands of future, digital applications and will enable customers\nto operate their businesses with simpler, more cost-effective networks.&nbsp;It\nis also based on development and investments in three key technology areas:\nsilicon, optics and software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPushing\nthe boundaries of innovation to the next level &#8211; far beyond what we experience\ntoday &#8211; is critical for the future and we believe silicon, optics and software\nare the technology levers that will deliver this outcome,\u201d said David\nGoeckeler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Networking and\nSecurity Business at Cisco. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCisco\u2019s\ntechnology strategy is not about the next-generation of a single product area.\nWe have spent the past several years investing in whole categories of\nindependent technologies that we believe will converge in the future &#8211; and\nultimately will allow us to solve the hardest problems on the verge of eroding\nthe advancement of digital innovation. This strategy is delivering the most\nambitious development project the company has ever achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introducing\nCisco Silicon One \u2013 breakthrough unified, programmable silicon architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nnew Cisco Silicon One will be the foundation of Cisco\u2019s routing portfolio going\nforward, with near-term performance availability up to 25 Terabits per second\n(Tbps). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nis the industry\u2019s first networking chip universally adaptable across service\nprovider and web-scale markets. Designed for both fixed and modular platforms,\nit can manage the most challenging requirements in a way that\u2019s never been done\nbefore. The first Cisco Silicon One \u2018Q100\u2019 model surpasses the 10 Tbps routing\nmilestone for network bandwidth without sacrificing programmability, buffering,\npower efficiency, scale or feature flexibility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally,\nmultiple types of silicon with different capabilities are used across a network\nand even within a single device. Developing new features and testing can be\nlengthy and expensive. Unified and programmable silicon will allow for network\noperators to greatly reduce costs of operations and reduce time-to-value for\nnew services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We look\nforward to working with Cisco as it enters the high-end routing silicon space,\ncollaborating to help meet the next generation of network demands for higher\nspeeds and greater capacity,&#8221; said Amin Vahdat, Fellow and Vice President\nof Systems Infrastructure, Google Cloud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ray Moto, CEO and Principal Analyst at ACG Research, added: \u201cCisco is evolving and is changing the economics of powering the Internet, innovating across hardware, software, optics and silicon to help its customers better manage the operational costs to function on a larger scale for the next phase of the Internet. As we move to 2020, the timing of delivering operational efficiency will be vital.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introducing\nCisco 8000 Series Platform powered by Cisco Silicon One &#8211; Industry leading performance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nnew Cisco 8000 series is the first platform built with Cisco Silicon One Q100.\nIt is engineered to help service providers and web-scale companies reduce the\ncosts of building and operating mass-scale networks for the 5G, AI and IOT era.\nStandout features include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Optimised for 400 Gbps and beyond, starting at 10.8 Tbps in just a single rack unit<\/li><li>Powered by the new, cloud-enhanced Cisco IOS XR7 networking operating system software, designed to simplify operations and lower operational costs<\/li><li>Offers enhanced  cybersecurity with integrated trust technology for real-time insights into the trustworthiness of your critical infrastructure <\/li><li>Service providers gain  more bandwidth scale and programmability to deliver Tbps in even the most power and space constrained network locations <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Global\ncustomer deployments and trials<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cisco\nis working with a group of pioneering customers on deployments and trials of\nthe Cisco 8000 Series. STC, the leading telecom services provider in the Middle\nEast and Northern Africa region, which marks the first customer implementing\nthe new technology. Ongoing global trials include Comcast, CenturyLink and NTTCom\namong others.<em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Optics\nfor 400G and beyond<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Building\na new Internet that can support future digital innovation will depend on continued\nbreakthroughs in silicon and optics technologies. Cisco is unique in the\nindustry with the most advanced intellectual property in both areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As\nport rates increase from 100G to 400G and beyond, optics become an increasingly\nlarger portion of the cost to build and operate Internet infrastructure. Cisco\nis investing organically to assure its customers that as router and switch port\nrates continue to increase, optics will be available that meet the industry\u2019s\nmost stringent reliability and quality standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through\nthe company\u2019s qualification program, Cisco is working to ensure that its optics\nwill fully comply with industry standards, under all operating conditions, and\noperate in \u2018any\u2019 host \u2013 including non-Cisco hosts. With this program, customers\ncan utilise Cisco optics in applications where non-Cisco hosts have been\ndeployed and have full confidence that the optics will meet the reliability and\nquality standards that they have come to expect from Cisco.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\naddition, as silicon and silicon photonics advance, functions that were\ntraditionally delivered in separate chassis-based solutions will soon be\navailable in pluggable form factors. This transition has significant potential\nbenefits for network operators in terms of operational simplicity.&nbsp; Cisco\nis investing in silicon photonics technologies to effect architectural\ntransitions in datacentre networks and service provider networks that will\ndrive down cost, reduce power and space, and simplify network operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Changing\nthe economics of the Internet with flexible business models<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cisco has also announced plans <\/strong>to offer\nflexible consumption models first established with Cisco\u2019s Optics portfolio,\nfollowed by the disaggregation of the Cisco IOS-XR software, and now including\nCisco Silicon One.
