Cisco has revealed its top trends and predictions for technology in 2020 and beyond.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe last decade has seen a huge change in the way consumers, business, industry and governments use technology. The mass adoption of smartphones has seen cloud-based computing, apps and social media develop at a rapid pace. Cisco is predicting even more dramatic changes for the decade ahead,\u201d said Osama Al-Zoubi, Cisco CTO for Middle East and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cisco has revealed its top trends and predictions for\ntechnology in 2020 and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe last decade has seen a huge change in the way\nconsumers, business, industry and governments use technology. The mass adoption\nof smartphones has seen cloud-based computing, apps and social media develop at\na rapid pace. Cisco is predicting even more dramatic changes for the decade\nahead,\u201d said Osama Al-Zoubi, Cisco CTO for Middle East and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Networking Trends: the journey towards Intent-Based\nNetworks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cisco believes the future of networks is\nIntent-Based Networking (IBN), which uses AI and Machine Learning\nto predict actions, detect and resolve anomalies automatically, stop security\nthreats, while continuing to evolve and learn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Cisco Global Network Trends survey of\n2,000 IT experts, 78% believe IBN will play a bigger role in their networks\nwithin two years. A further 35% said their networks will be fully intent-based\nover the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internet of the future<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rapid Digital Transformation is pushing existing\nInternet infrastructure close to its breaking point. As such it is important\nthat an Internet of the future is developed. By 2023, there will be an\nestimated 49 billion devices connected to the Internet and the next decade will\nsee greater use of technologies such as virtual and Augmented Reality, 16K\nstreaming and Artificial Intelligence (AI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The infrastructure of the Internet needs to be made\nfaster, more scalable and simpler to manage, secure and enable these new\ntechnologies. Cisco has announced its \u2018Internet for the Future\u2019 technology\nstrategy which is based on investments in silicon, optics and software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Application loyalty is the new brand loyalty<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brands and app developers will have to work harder to\nretain users. According to the latest findings of the AppDynamics App Attention\nIndex, the use of digital services has evolved to become an unconscious human\nbehaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research shows that consumers have zero tolerance\ntowards apps that do not offer a premium experience with 49% switching to the\ncompetition if they experience performance issues. While 63% will actively\ndiscourage others from using the service or brand without giving the business a\nchance to improve. In 2020, businesses must analyse data and application\nperformance in real-time to ensure the user experience is fast and exceptional.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Threat hunting and Zero Trust. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organisations need to get ahead of cybersecurity\nthreats and the Zero Trust model will play a greater role. Under Zero Trust,\naccess to the network is only given to authorised devices, users and workloads\nonce trust is established and threats are prevented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Threat hunting will also be more important as part of\nan organisations\u2019 holistic security approach. Threat hunting discovers new,\nunknown malware and vulnerabilities. Even if no malware is detected, threat\nhunting will often identify vulnerabilities that require attention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skills\/IT talent shortage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IT industry is facing a talent gap and according\nto a Cisco survey of the 600 IT and business decision makers, 93% believe it is\nso serious that it is slowing their business\u2019 transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most in demand are data science and AI roles, but to\nmeet their needs IT must shift from \u2018orders takers\u2019 to strategic business\npartners. The day-to-day roles of IT workers will move towards solving business\nproblems with technology and away from configuring devices. The biggest hiring\npriority for IT and business executives in the coming years will be for\nemployees with technical and business skills.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
