Ethiopian Airlines, the largest aviation group in Africa, has teamed up with Abay Bank to offer an additional digital payment option for buying air tickets through Ethiopian mobile app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The airline is a\npioneer in Ethiopia\u2019s e-commerce market and a major player in Africa\u2019s digital\npayment industry, offering user-friendly solutions to its customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belete Dagnew, Vice\nPresident \u2013 Corporate Service at Abay Bank, added: <\/strong>\u201cSince its establishment, Abay Bank has been working hard to meet\nthe needs of its customers using state-of-the-art technology. Currently, the\nnumber of mobile banking service users of the bank has reached over 125,000,\nand based on the contractual agreement signed between the Bank and Ethiopian, customers\ncan now pay for their airline tickets booked at Ethiopian Airlines using the\nBank\u2019s mobile banking service USSD code *812# in a simple and easy way or at\nany of Abay Bank\u2019s branches.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Contributing 44% of\nthe airline\u2019s domestic sectors online sales, Ethiopian\u2019s user-friendly mobile\napp offers six international and 13 local payment options. The app is made\navailable in three local languages, Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrinya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile,\nSanad Aerotech (Sanad), the leading provider of aircraft engine maintenance,\nrepair and overhaul (MRO) solutions and part of Sanad \u2013 a wholly owned subsidiary\nof Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala), has elevated its business expansion\nambitions in Africa by signing a landmark agreement with Ethiopian Airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The agreement paves\nthe way for Sanad and Ethiopian Airlines to collaborate and maximise on\nuntapped MRO business opportunities in the region. The initial phase of the\nagreement will see Sanad and Ethiopian Airlines establishing a Centre of\nExcellence for the repair and overhaul of auxiliary power units (APU) in Addis\nAbaba and will start with APU\u2019s used on B737 and A320 aircraft. This will pave\nthe way for future collaboration in the provision of APU MRO services to other\nAfrican airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The strategic alliance\nalso has future aspirations to expand capabilities to include aircraft\ncomponents and aircraft engine MRO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The latest agreement\nbetween Sanad and Ethiopian Airlines builds on a 2018 MoU to collaborate on APU\ncapabilities, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mansoor Janahi, Sanad\nAerotech CEO, said: \u201cSanad continues to push ahead with its strategy of\nexpanding a global presence through strategic alliances with well-established\ncompanies that share the same vision for quality and excellence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur strategic\nalliance with Ethiopian Airlines goes beyond this announcement, as it provides\ngreater opportunities for us to jointly collaborate and develop mutually\nbeneficial activities across the entire African continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ethiopian Airlines\nGroup Chief Executive Officer, Tewolde Gebre Mariam, added: \u201cThis Strategic\nAlliance with Sanad Aerotech is consistent with Ethiopian Airlines vision of\nmaking its MRO facility the leading MRO service provider in Africa through\nstrategic partnerships with OEMs and selected international MRO Service\nProviders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sanad has built\nstrategic relationships with leading international OEMs including Rolls-Royce,\nGeneral Electric (GE) and International Aero Engines (IAE), which have enabled\nSanad to deliver competitive aircraft engine MRO expertise throughout a variety\nof engine maintenance service programs across multiple engine platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n New SAP ERP\nsystem is inaugurated <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) has held\ncelebrations at its primary data centre in Addis Ababa to officially inaugurate\nits new SAP ERP system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by\nhonorary guest, State Minister of the Energy Sector within the Ministry of\nWater Irrigation and Electricity for Ethiopia, H.E Dr Frehiwot Woldehanna, as\nwell as several other dignitaries and senior executives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The celebration, which marked the official go\nlive of the SAP system, heralded a new era of efficiency and accountability in\nthe EEU\u2019s billing and reporting capability. It is another step in the ongoing\ncommitment of the Ethiopian government to improve the overall economics and\nservice of the electricity supply industry. The sector has been reviewing its\noperations across the board to identify opportunities to improve in areas such\nbilling and collections, private investment in generation, capacity building\nand tariff management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The EEU operates in a highly complex\nenvironment and serves customers in cities across all 11 regional states. It\nfaced challenges in delivering services efficiently while also maintaining full\nvisibility and accountability across all its systems. SAP ERP and SAP CRM were\nselected by EEU to streamline processes and provide real time visibility.
