It delivers intent-based orchestration across multi-domain and multi-vendor environments while providing AI-powered observability, automated fault detection, root-cause analysis and closed-loop remediation.

The platform also introduces four core capabilities designed to support increasingly autonomous operations:

Unified data management across network domains

Agentic AI for service operations and optimisation

Digital Twin simulations for predictive planning and impact assessment

Intent-Based Networking that converts business objectives into automated operational actions.

Rather than relying on separate operational teams to manage mobile, fixed and transport networks individually, Nokia aims to help operators create programmable, AI-native networks capable of responding automatically to changing demand.

Oguz Sunay, CTO, AI and Autonomous Networks, Nokia, said autonomous networking had moved beyond a long-term vision.

“Autonomous networks have gone from far-off vision to business imperative. At Nokia, we move operators toward greater autonomy through the convergence of intent-based networking, agentic AI and cloud-native architecture. Together with AWS, we’re building a platform that scales operators’ ambitions while maintaining the control and governance they need. This is how telcos will compete in the AI era.”

Running on AWS also enables operators to take advantage of Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker and other AI and machine learning services while benefiting from elastic cloud scalability and global infrastructure.

Nokia said it is engineering an optimised cloud footprint designed to reduce compute and storage requirements compared with traditional on-premises deployments.

Amir Rao, Global Director for Telco Solutions, AWS, said the partnership would significantly accelerate Digital Transformation across the telecommunications sector.

“The shift to autonomous network operations is ultimately about speed and step-change efficiency. Speed to detect, speed to resolve, speed to monetize. Achieving step-change cost efficiency is critical for customers to unlock agentic value in the AI era.”

He added that optimising Nokia’s operational stack on AWS would allow operators to compress years of Digital Transformation into months while improving both cost efficiency and revenue growth.

Databricks collaboration tackles fragmented telecom data

Alongside the AWS announcement, Nokia also revealed the successful completion of a joint proof of concept with Databricks aimed at solving one of the industry’s biggest AI adoption challenges: fragmented operational data.

Modern telecommunications networks typically rely on hundreds of operational and business support systems, each storing information in different formats and architectures. This fragmentation makes it difficult to deploy AI consistently across the network.

The proof of concept demonstrated a unified, substrate-agnostic data platform capable of operating across multiple cloud environments or on-premises infrastructure without requiring operators to rewrite applications or analytics pipelines.

Engineering teams from Nokia and Databricks focused on a real-time performance management scenario designed to replicate the scale of Tier 1 telecommunications operators.

The project confirmed that the joint architecture could ingest massive volumes of real-time network data while supporting AI agents capable of making automated decisions across multiple operational domains.

Sunay said robust data foundations would be essential for autonomous networking.

“Teaming up with Databricks represents a big step as we work toward building the types of data foundations required for next-generation autonomous networks. By enabling a common, flexible data platform across cloud environments, we can help operators accelerate the adoption of AI and create more efficient, resilient and sustainable networks.”

Nevash Pillay, Global Head of Telecommunications Industry, Databricks, said the collaboration showed how operators could unlock greater value from AI.

“Telecom operators are managing increasingly complex networks and need a more consistent way to harness their data. Our collaboration with Nokia demonstrates how a unified data platform can help simplify operations and unlock the value of AI across network domains.”

Technical breakthroughs

The proof of concept delivered several capabilities intended to simplify AI deployment regardless of infrastructure choice.

Engineers created data pipelines that could be developed once and deployed across both Databricks and open-source environments without modification.

Nokia also developed vendor-neutral transformation logic using Python, allowing workflows to operate independently of specific cloud platforms and reducing the risk of technology lock-in.

An automated compiler translated abstract workflow definitions into native implementations for different environments, including Delta Live Tables for Databricks and Flink SQL for open-source deployments.

The project further demonstrated how AI agents could generate entirely new data products using natural language prompts before requesting human approval and automatically deploying the completed pipeline.

The underlying data fabric also introduced query-time data products, zero-copy data sharing and selective movement of historical data into higher-level cloud layers where AI agents can perform retrospective analysis such as root-cause investigation.

Building an ecosystem for autonomous operations

The two announcements reinforce Nokia’s broader strategy of creating an ecosystem that combines cloud providers, AI platforms and telecommunications expertise to accelerate autonomous networking.

Earlier this year Nokia and AWS demonstrated what they described as the industry’s first agentic AI-powered network slicing solution alongside du and Orange at Mobile World Congress. The companies also announced the first commercial mobile service built on 5G Core Software-as-a-Service running on Belgium’s Citymesh network.

Meanwhile, Nokia said its autonomous networking portfolio is already delivering measurable operational improvements for customers, including automation rates above 90%, service delivery within four hours, service interruptions of one minute or less per year, an 85% reduction in network slice rollout time and up to 50% fewer customer-impacting incidents.

The company plans to continue working with both AWS and Databricks to expand autonomous networking capabilities, enabling AI applications to access, correlate and act upon increasingly large volumes of network data in real time.

By combining cloud-native infrastructure, AI-powered automation and unified data management, Nokia believes operators can move beyond incremental automation towards networks capable of operating largely autonomously while opening new revenue opportunities in the AI era.

Nokia has strengthened its autonomous networking ambitions through expanded collaborations with Amazon Web Services and Databricks, combining cloud-native AI, unified data platforms and real-time analytics to help telecommunications operators accelerate the transition to self-managing networks.
