Having a healthy data environment in place gives organizations the power to run lean in tough times without sacrificing their long-term strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A company\u2019s overall data health describes not just the state of a company\u2019s data, but how well it supports targeted business outcomes. Major findings from the survey include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Companies\u2019 ability to manage data is worsening YOY: <\/strong>On all five markers of healthy data \u2014 timeliness, accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and completeness \u2014 companies rate themselves around 10 points lower in 2022 than they did in 2021. Timeliness (-29pts) and accessibility (-15pts) saw the greatest drops, as respondents struggle with getting the data they need as a result of remote work (57%).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>There is a data literacy skills gap: <\/strong>Respondents shared that the No. 1 barrier to getting real value from data isn\u2019t budget or technology \u2013\u2013 it\u2019s their people. One in three respondents have reservations about how well employees understand the data they work with. Without a common language for data, these businesses may not be prepared to face the challenges ahead.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Businesses are preparing for economic turbulence<\/strong>: Respondents ranked increasing revenue (+10pts) and optimising costs (+13pts) at the top of the list for data use and have increased in priority from last year. However, nearly half of companies claim that their data doesn&#8217;t yet have the speed and flexibility they need to satisfy all the demands of the business, and 41% claim they don\u2019t have fast access to the right data.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Data trust and data quality remain top challenges to using data effectively: <\/strong>More than one-third of companies report that trusting the data they rely on to make business decisions is a major challenge. In fact, nearly half of respondents feel that ensuring data quality is a top challenge in using data effectively. <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.gartner.com_smarterwithgartner_how-2Dto-2Dcreate-2Da-2Dbusiness-2Dcase-2Dfor-2Ddata-2Dquality-2Dimprovement&amp;d=DwMGaQ&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=an5Q-c1TF26QV9xfmzBlkeQ6mM4UdqYNphA42PAtre0&amp;m=Zm3zHrN_Mo6p5dPDXSTY4p3-IB2oC3koCcm_B_8toCo&amp;s=jnxsiZTMStlj37ppnjvQ1Tn61M1Mqp6ZykSH2oLfxmY&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gartner research<\/a> found that organisations believe poor data quality to be responsible for an average of $15 million per year in losses.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Demonstrating the value of data health in an organization is Covanta, a leader in sustainable materials management, offering solutions that keep trash out of landfills, reduce greenhouse gases and generate clean energy.
