{"id":34729,"date":"2024-04-08T14:20:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T13:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/apac\/?p=34729"},"modified":"2024-04-16T12:07:21","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T11:07:21","slug":"andromeda-robotics-trials-ai-powered-aged-care-companion-robot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/apac\/2024\/04\/08\/andromeda-robotics-trials-ai-powered-aged-care-companion-robot\/","title":{"rendered":"Andromeda Robotics trials AI-powered aged care companion robot"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Australian-based robotics and AI startup Andromeda Robotics is undertaking initial trials with aged care provider Allity &#8211; part of the Bolton Clarke Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trials involve Andromeda\u2019s protype humanoid companion robot designed to interact with residents in a relaxed and conversational manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Powered by the Chat GPT-4 Artificial Intelligence platform, the robot &#8211; named Abi &#8211; can recognise residents, answer questions and tailor conversations based on previous interactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thena Johnstone, National Pathways Manager, Allity, said Abi has been success with residents who enjoy interacting with it through voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have been fortunate enough to be involved with Abi from the very early stages and have watched it grow in both capability and physical stature,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbi now stands some 120cm tall and can gesture and move its head and eyes when interacting with residents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnstone said ongoing staff shortages across the aged care sector meant it was sometimes difficult to find times for conversations with residents. This is where a robot such as Abi can add significant value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andromeda founder Grace Brown said the initial trial at Allity was a significant step in the ongoing evolution of Abi \u2013 providing invaluable data for the company\u2019s development team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbi uses a mix of machine vision, Artificial Intelligence and Chat GPT to power its interactions with residents,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbi also relies on non-verbal cues and we have worked with advisors from animation studios Pixar and DreamWorks to make Abi\u2019s body language as empathetic and engaging as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian-based robotics and AI startup Andromeda Robotics is undertaking initial trials with aged care provider Allity &#8211; part of the Bolton Clarke Group.
