{"id":47339,"date":"2025-07-21T09:44:35","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T08:44:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/apac\/?p=47339"},"modified":"2026-07-06T15:08:45","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T14:08:45","slug":"telstra-health-and-consultmed-embed-ereferral-in-medicaldirector-clinical-to-transform-gp-workflows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/apac\/2025\/07\/21\/telstra-health-and-consultmed-embed-ereferral-in-medicaldirector-clinical-to-transform-gp-workflows\/","title":{"rendered":"Telstra Health and Consultmed embed eReferral in MedicalDirector Clinical to transform GP workflows"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Telstra Health has partnered with Consultmed to embed secure eReferral capability directly within MedicalDirector Clinical, streamlining referral processes for GPs and reducing administrative burden.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telstra Health, Australia\u2019s largest digital health technology company, has announced its latest partnership with Consultmed, a leading digital referral platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This integration allows GPs to create and send fast, secure eReferrals directly from within MedicalDirector Clinical via the Smartbar \u2013 a convenient in-platform widget available at no additional cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike other systems that require GPs to navigate outside their practice management software (PMS), Consultmed is embedded directly into the referral workflow, enabling seamless adoption with minimal disruption to clinical routines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Consultmed widget is the latest addition to Telstra Health\u2019s Smartbar \u2013 a sidebar feature unique to MedicalDirector Clinical that gives clinicians access to a suite of powerful tools from one central location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referral workflows have long been a pain point for GPs, often plagued by manual paperwork, printing, faxing and limited visibility into outcomes. These inefficiencies fragment care and increase administrative burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A national study of 1,935 GPs found that referrals accounted for 8% of non-billable time with an additional 12% spent discussing patient care with specialists. Despite nearly all GPs being connected to My Health Record, fax remains a dominant method of communication, especially where systems lack interoperability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consultmed directly addresses these challenges by enabling GPs to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create and send secure, trackable eReferrals without leaving the software<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request Clinical Advice &amp; Guidance from participating healthcare networks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attach supporting documents such as pathology and radiology reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access a built-in health service and specialist directory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receive communications directly from specialists requesting missing information or offering pre-appointment Advice &amp; Guidance, enabling more co-ordinated care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Receive referral acknowledgements, letters, reports and discharge summaries straight into the MedicalDirector inbox<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Consultmed\u2019s cloud-based, FHIR-enabled digital referral platform is seeing rapid adoption across the Australian healthcare sector. It currently supports over 45,000 health professionals and is deployed across more than 15 major public and private health networks including Sydney Children\u2019s Hospitals Network, South Western Sydney LHD, Alfred Health and Amplar Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consultmed\u2019s Advice &amp; Guidance technology enables secure, bi-directional communication between healthcare providers. By improving timely access to specialist input, this model of care empowers clinicians to manage more care in the community.
