{"id":51515,"date":"2025-10-20T11:49:30","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T10:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/apac\/?p=51515"},"modified":"2026-07-06T15:02:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T14:02:38","slug":"national-road-transport-technology-strategy-sets-direction-for-australias-future-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/apac\/2025\/10\/20\/national-road-transport-technology-strategy-sets-direction-for-australias-future-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"National Road Transport Technology Strategy sets direction for Australia\u2019s future roads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Albanese Government has released the <em>National Road Transport Technology Strategy<\/em> setting out a nationally consistent approach to adopting and regulating emerging vehicle technologies across Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Released on behalf of Australia\u2019s infrastructure and transport ministers, the strategy aims to guide the safe and responsible integration of connected and automated vehicle technologies into the nation\u2019s transport system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the strategy would help governments manage both the opportunities and challenges posed by new road technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese systems will help keep Australians safe on our roads while identifying any gaps in existing laws,\u201d Ms King said. \u201cAs vehicle technology evolves, it\u2019s vital our frameworks keep pace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strategy sets out the policy, regulatory and investment roles of governments and introduces nine guiding principles to ensure nationally consistent decision-making. It also highlights the potential of new technologies to improve road safety and energy efficiency while addressing associated privacy and cybersecurity risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accompanying the strategy is the <em>2024\u201327 National Connected and Automated Vehicle Action Plan<\/em> which details key priorities for federal, state and territory governments through to 2027. These include developing a national regulatory framework for automated vehicle safety and advancing a Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) roadmap to support connected infrastructure that can communicate with vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Endorsed by the Infrastructure and Transport Ministers\u2019 Meeting (ITMM), the strategy is said to ensure Australia is prepared to harness the full benefits of transport technology innovation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Albanese Government has released the National Road Transport Technology Strategy setting out a nationally consistent approach to adopting and regulating emerging vehicle technologies across Australia.
