{"id":171348,"date":"2026-09-22T11:24:33","date_gmt":"2026-09-22T10:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/eu\/?p=171348"},"modified":"2026-09-22T11:24:34","modified_gmt":"2026-09-22T10:24:34","slug":"nhs-ai-commission-calls-for-continuous-monitoring-of-healthcare-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/eu\/2026\/09\/22\/nhs-ai-commission-calls-for-continuous-monitoring-of-healthcare-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"NHS AI commission calls for continuous monitoring of healthcare technology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Independent commission recommends staged approvals and continuous real-world monitoring of AI-enabled medical devices as the NHS expands its use of Artificial Intelligence.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI-enabled medical devices should be continuously monitored throughout their working lives rather than relying on a single approval before deployment, according to a UK independent commission established by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare has published recommendations designed to accelerate adoption while maintaining patient safety and public trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its conclusions follow a year-long consultation involving more than 12,000 patients, members of the public, clinicians, healthcare leaders, technology developers and other participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One recommendation would introduce staged authorisations for new AI models, allowing technologies to operate initially under greater supervision and restrictions while generating evidence about their safety and performance in real-world healthcare environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission also wants patients to have easier access to safety information about individual AI-enabled medical devices, including reported adverse incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients should also be informed when AI is being used in their care, while meaningful human oversight should remain in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe innovate because we believe tomorrow\u2019s healthcare can be better than today\u2019s. But any new innovation \u2013 including AI \u2013 needs to earn its place and earn our trust.
