EfficiencyIT, a specialist in data centre design and build, Edge Computing environments and IT services, has announced it has won \u2018IT Systems Reseller and Managed Services Provider of the year\u2019 at the 2019 SDC Awards 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now in its fourth year of operation, the award recognises the company for its expertise within the critical infrastructure space and its focus on delivering highly resilient, energy efficient Digital Transformation solutions to customers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edge project\nof the year<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the SDC Awards, EfficiencyIT also received a second accolade for \u2018Edge Project of the year\u2019, awarded in collaboration with The Wellcome Sanger Institute and EIT\u2019s vendor partner, Schneider Electric. Based at the Wellcome Genome Campus in Cambridge, The Wellcome Sanger Institute is one of the world leaders in genomic research, dealing with some of the greatest medical research questions and challenges in human diseases, including cancer, malaria, measles and cholera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sheer volume of data produced by the institute’s fleet of sequencing machines and the speed at which it is generated, requires use of an on-premise data centre with massive storage and processing capabilities. Here an outsourced, or cloud-hosted option, could not deliver the ultra low latency required by local applications and could incur significant connectivity costs.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the sequencing machines, which\nproduce vast quantities of genomic information each day, are critical to the\nresearch operation, so must be protected from loss of power at all times. An\noutage would require expensive chemicals to be replaced quickly and could\npotentially mean loss of precious raw data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the watchful eye of EIT, The Wellcome Sanger Institute have deployed APC by Schneider Electric Smart-UPS uninterruptible power supplies to provide resilient power protection in the research labs and utilise Schneider Electric\u2019s EcoStruxure IT next-generation DCIM platform, with its Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities, to proactively manage the data centre and minimise downtime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
