Phoenix Fiber invests in FTTH Furukawa solution for neutral network

The quality of the material used in the construction of an Optical Fiber to The Home (FTTH) network is an essential requirement to get the best out of this technology, guaranteeing the user a higher connection speed and access to different services.

This was the main reason that led Phoenix Fiber Brazil to adopt Furukawa Solutions in the construction of its multi operator FTTH network, also called neutral network, which currently covers 11 cities in four states in Brazil.

Marcos Faria, Executive Director of Operations, Phoenix Fiber Brazil, said: “Our customer is a telecommunications operator, which uses our FTTH network infrastructure to deliver services, and the operator that hired our network is extremely demanding in quality terms, therefore, we are investing in Furukawa products, which have a complete FTTH solution.”

Winning the Furukawa Electric Awards in December, the Phoenix project consisted of building a high-quality neutral network, which can be shared among several operators to offer a range of services – data, voice, image, video streaming, etc.

“The infrastructure was implemented in 11 cities distributed across the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Espírito Santo, covering 170,000 homes that did not have access to a quality broadband Internet service,” said Faria.

In most cities, Phoenix used 100% Furukawa solution- cables, boxes, accessories and other external network materials.

Faria said: “In terms of logistical control, having a single supplier made it a lot easier. Another advantage is that everything arrived on schedule, which allowed the project to be completed in just 11 months.”

In full operation since August 2020, the neutral network of Phoenix – built with the Furukawa solution – has a total of 1,600 kilometers of fiber.

“This infrastructure has the capacity to serve other operators interested in providing services in these cities,” concluded Faria.
