Dassault Systèmes and The Fab Foundation announce next-gen Fab Lab in Haiti

A new innovation lab will be launched to benefit the creation of new technologies around the world.

Paul Altidor, Former Haitian Ambassador to the US; Sherry Lassiter, President and CEO of The Fab Foundation; and Suchit Jain, VP of Strategy and Business Development, 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS at Dassault Systèmes, jointly announced a next-generation Fab Lab planned in Haiti.

Created by Dassault Systèmes in partnership with The Fab Foundation, the Fab Lab will be located in the city of Jérémie, in Haiti, and will bridge the gap between local manufacturers and technology providers with global digital fabrication skills.

Fab Lab Jérémie is the fifth in a series of Fab Labs created by Dassault Systèmes in collaboration with The Fab Foundation and came after labs in Rwanda, Bhutan, Chile and Nepal. It aims to stimulate digital fabrication and the local technology ecosystem.

Fab Labs provide a platform for training, knowledge sharing and integration of hardware and software disciplines to bring Haitian innovators closer to a self-sustaining future.

The new Fab Lab will be the first in a series of self-replicating centers that aim to build machines that can create a whole suite of other machines, components and utilities needed to set up and operate fully fledged labs.

Sherry Lassiter, President and CEO, The Fab Foundation, said: “Haiti will test the first Fab Lab made in a Fab Lab, enabling the Jérémie community to build new economic opportunities locally and scale opportunities across the country.”
