It has been reported that the Costa Rican President, Rodrigo Chaves, has declared a national emergency following cyberattacks from Conti ransomware group on multiple government bodies.
Etay Maor, Senior Director of Security Strategy at Cato Networks, said: “The recent ransomware attack on Cost Rica is just the latest example of why organisations shouldn’t ‘go it alone’ when trying to protect themselves. They often lack the specialised skills, tools and processes to hunt threats. Their ‘blast radius’ is too limited, only learning from the threats that they can see on their network.
“What’s needed is a trusted authority that can handle the specialised research needed to spot various threats. This authority would be equipped with the necessary security tools and specialised skills to hunt and study ransomware, issuing patches and updates once found. And once issued, organisations would need to put in place the ability to immediately consume and deploy those patches for optimum security.
“Creating and trusting such a body will be a challenge, which is why so many enterprises are looking at cloud security providers. Their specialised skills, tools and ability to look across organisations make them ideal candidates for such a role.”
