This marks the service’s fourth market of operation and aims to drive greater financial inclusion for gig economy workers, including drivers and couriers.

The launch of inDrive.Money is not just a product milestone. More importantly, it elevated the technical capabilities of R2 and inDrive, pushing both teams to design scalable, real-time systems tailored for mobile-first, gig economy users, who were underserved by traditional banks. This partnership took a complex engineering problem and executed a seamless solution, setting the standard for embedded finance in Latin America.

Gig economy workers often struggle to access traditional lending due to a lack of credit histories or payslips. To address this, inDrive now offers app-based credit via its platform, which is the world’s second-most downloaded ride-hailing app.

In LATAM, inDrive.Money now operates in Mexico, Colombia and Peru – where it is partnered with R2, a Latin American fintech specialising in financing for small and medium-sized businesses. Since its launch, inDrive.Money has issued over 100,000 loans, with lending volume growing rapidly to meet strong demand.

This expansion is part of inDrive’s broader strategy to transform into a multi-service platform beyond ride-hailing. inDrive.Money supports revenue diversification while improving driver loyalty and retention. It also contributes to higher Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), which reflects the total value of rides and deliveries before deductions.

Mark Loughran, President of inDrive, said: “At inDrive, we believe in empowering people with fair choices, and financial inclusion is a natural extension of this mission. For many of our drivers and couriers, income from the platform is essential for their livelihoods. We therefore recognise both the responsibility and the opportunity to create meaningful impact. These individuals are not just service providers – they are entrepreneurs managing their own businesses. By partnering with R2 to offer them loans, we are providing greater financial security and flexibility, ensuring that urgent expenses don’t disrupt their work or long-term plans. This allows them to focus on growth with confidence, knowing that they have the security and support to thrive.”

R2 offers cash loans for urgent expenses such as vehicle repairs and daily essentials through the inDrive app. inDrive supplies borrower data such as ride frequency and monthly earnings to support R2 in credit assessment. R2 then handles KYC, scoring and loan terms.

Drivers benefit from a fully integrated application and repayment system inside the app. Monthly payment plans typically span six months, with less than 10% of ride earnings automatically allocated to repayments. There are no fixed daily payments, allowing flexibility if drivers need to pause or reduce activity.

inDrive.Money is currently available in nine cities across Peru: Lima, Arequipa, Trujillo, Piura, Chaclacayo, Ayacucho, Nazca, Yunguyo and Pisco, with more to follow.

Behind the tech: Q&A with Alexander Karpin, Head of Product, inDrive.Money

Talk us through the technology behind inDrive.Money’s partnership with R2
The partnership unlocks lending for gig economy workers using alternative data and inDrive’s understanding of driver behaviour. This integration enables access to formal credit from within the app, allowing drivers to build credit histories. R2’s platform uses advanced analytics and AI to score data such as ride frequency, income consistency and app activity.

Drivers give consent for their data to be shared with third parties. Once scored, inDrive creates personalised loan offers directly in the app. The experience is fully embedded, from application to disbursement, with no need to leave the platform.

Repayments are automatically deducted in small increments from ride earnings, or drivers can repay directly to R2 if preferred.

How was this technology implemented?
Implementation was a phased collaboration requiring adaptation on both sides. Originally designed for SME financing, R2’s platform was re-engineered for a mobile-first, gig economy user base. Key developments included secure real-time data transfer and automated repayment protocols, powered by inDrive’s new tech stack, Ayan.

Following success in Mexico, expansion to Colombia and Peru brought new challenges, including adapting to various data sources and operational environments. Both teams worked to minimise manual intervention and maximise use of existing data for a seamless experience.

inDrive has expanded its financial services arm with the launch of inDrive.Money in Peru, offering cash loans to drivers and couriers through its ride-hailing app as part of its broader push into multi-service mobility. inDrive, a mobility and urban services platform operating in 888 cities across 48 countries, has launched inDrive.Money in Peru.
