Peru and Chile have formalized a strategic alliance to jointly develop Artificial Intelligence technologies and advance Latam-GPT – a regional language model designed to strengthen Latin America\u2019s technological autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) of Peru and Chile\u2019s Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation signed a memorandum of understanding to launch collaborative AI projects with long-term regional impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement was endorsed by Peru\u2019s PCM chief Ernesto \u00c1lvarez Miranda and Chilean minister Aldo Valle Acevedo \u2013 with both governments highlighted the importance of building AI capabilities that reflect Latin America\u2019s identity, priorities and values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Premier \u00c1lvarez emphasized that the partnership marks a decisive step toward shaping the region\u2019s digital future and strengthening its voice on the global stage. The initiative already includes Brazil and the Dominican Republic – reflecting growing regional commitment to reducing dependence on foreign AI models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Valle noted that the agreement carries a significant political message – LATAM nations are determined to pursue technological sovereignty and create AI with a clear regional identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The memorandum sets a framework for ethical, safe and responsible AI development. It promotes cooperation in designing a language model for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as sharing knowledge, best practices and protected data following strict transparency and personal-information standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Technical coordination will be led by CENIA (Chile\u2019s National Center for Artificial Intelligence) and Peru\u2019s Secretariat of Government and Digital Transformation. Both institutions will drive AI training for public officials and foster practical applications in education, health, social development and transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
