R&M to host regional data centre networking day

R&M, the Swiss structured cabling specialist, together with five of the region’s technology vendors is set to host its Data Center Networking Day themed ‘Is your Data Center ready for the future?’ at its regional office in the Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) on the 11th of November, 2014.

The event it targeted at data center consultants and IT decision makers from all major industry verticals and will feature presentations by R&M, Fluke Networks, STULZ, FNT Software, Tate Access Floors and EAE Electric that will address every aspect of data center design and operation from cabling and cooling to flooring and infrastructure management.

This is the first time that R&M is conducting one of its highly successful Data Center Networking Day events in the Middle East and Thomas Wellinger, Market Manager Data Centre at R&M Headquarter in Switzerland expects a healthy turnout with over 60 top level IT decision makers in attendance.

He said, “We are excited to be collaborating with the finest set of companies in the Middle East to showcase cutting-edge connectivity, Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and infrastructure solutions for next-generation enterprise data centers. The Data Center Networking Days are an event series for experts and data center managers around the world and we look forward to demonstrating how the industry can unlock the business benefits associated with visionary data center solutions.”

This strategic alliance between R&M and the five market leading vendors is aimed at creating an event that delivers more value to attendees by highlighting a broad range of topics that touch upon every aspect of the modern data center. The participating vendors bring with them deep knowledge of various market verticals including government, telecom, utilities, banking and finance, and education. Attendees can expect to gain insights into reducing data center infrastructure deployment times, minimizing unplanned outages and controlling infrastructure management costs.

For R&M, Thomas Wellinger will deliver a presentation titled ‘Evolving Needs in High Performance Network Infrastructure’. In this, he will outline how expanding networking needs require data center architecture to evolve into ‘flatter’ networks. He will then discuss how the combination of high bandwidth fabric networks with centrally managed physical infrastructure is key to increasing performance and reliability, and enabling an automatically documented delivery process.

Other presentations include a discussion on the best testing and monitoring practices for data centers by Fluke Networks, and a demonstration by FNT of their DCIM technology and smart solution for integration with different monitoring applications in the data center. Tate Access Floors, a leading raised access floor manufacturer, will deliver a presentation titled ‘The Need for Accurate Airflow Control in Your Data Center’, informing guests about the impact of airflow in the data center on energy efficiency, rack level diversity and variability. The vendor will also highlight its ‘virtual containment solutions’.

Commenting on the challenges faced in next-generation data centers, Werner Heeren, regional director, Middle East Africa and Turkey – Fluke Networks said, “Data centers today are transforming from a traditional, distributed infrastructure to a consolidated and service-oriented structure. Whether growing to support high-bandwidth services or shrinking and centralizing systems, data centers are in a constant state of change. Servers are being virtualized, and 40G links are being installed to support consolidation of bandwidth hungry applications, which drive up the cost of network interfaces and put greater demands on the cabling infrastructure.”

The Data Center Networking Day is a full day event starting at 9am and ending at 4pm. After the presentations by the participating vendors, guests will be treated to a tour of the R&M patch cord assembly facility where the company carries out the customization of its products including its copper patch cords to meet each customer’s exact requirements.
