Ooredoo Kuwait, Huawei sign MoU for network modernisation

Ooredoo, the telecommunications company in the Middle East, and Huawei , a global ICT solutions provider, have announced plans to extend their existing cooperation in Kuwait. The announcement follows a memorandum of understanding that was signed between Ooredoo Kuwait and Huawei during the Mobile World Congress.

With a focus on enhancing Ooredoo’s Digital Business Program, the partnership will bring together an elite team of global Huawei consultants and engineers to support Ooredoo in providing ubiquitous connectivity to its local customers while guaranteeing an exceptional user experience for all. Ooredoo’s on-going Digital Business Program involves the virtualisation, digitisation, and monetisation of Ooredoo services as well its network infrastructure.

The latest memorandum includes plans for more frequent bilateral strategy summits and deeper collaboration with Huawei business and technical consultants in Kuwait, working to advance Ooredoo’s IP and DWDM network, expand its LTE network, and modernise its CS/SDM/IMS core network.

The agreement underscores the ambitions of Ooredoo Kuwait and Huawei to enrich people’s lives through communication by investing in ICT transformation initiatives. In his words, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al-Thani, Ooredoo Kuwait General Manager and CEO stated the fact that “Through signing this MoU, we are celebrating our long-term partnership with Huawei and are providing our customers with the best in class connectivity.”

Yi Xiang, President of Huawei Regions Management, said, “Ooredoo Kuwait has long been a pioneer within the country’s telecommunications landscape. Through this latest memorandum, Huawei looks forward to supporting Ooredoo Kuwait in its continued mission to develop customercentric services through broader, smarter network infrastructure.” In recent years Ooredoo and Huawei have partnered in the development of Ooredoo’s mobile broadband capabilities including the commercial launch of LTE services in Kuwait and radio modernization projects. Ooredoo and Huawei have since expanded their relationship to include plans on IP transmission networks modernization, core network virtualization, and LTE service expansion.
