Future Technology Week to highlight $10.9 billion opportunity for cloud-based big data

With the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) catalysing a global surge in data volumes, this month’s Internet of Things Expo (IoTX) and The Big Data Show at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) will explore how advanced connectivity, smart cities digitalisation and cloud-based control of devices, people and enterprise operations are poised to transform the region’s business landscape.

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), public and private sector investment across the Middle East and Africa’s public safety and security, telecommunications, banking, energy, transportation, manufacturing, consumer and Smart Cities industries will drive the region’s IoT market to a valuation of $10.9 billion in 2019 – up from $5.1 billion last year.

High penetration of mobile devices in the GCC combined with the broad availability of the latest generation of mobile networks are driving regional IoT projects aimed at delivering mobile services to end users and, consequently, creating unfathomable quantities of new data in the process. In this environment, regional business face a race against the clock to enhance their operations, develop new business models and deliver innovative services to their customers.

“More data has been created in the past two years than in the entire history of the human race; the growth in IoT products and resulting surge in big data are transforming traditional business models” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events, DWTC . “Our IoTX and the Big Data Show provide segmented conference and exhibition platforms for companies to explore innovative technologies and solutions upgrades that will maximise monetisation avenues and benefit their customers.”

Future Technology Week – which runs 29-31 March across four halls at DWTC – will collect and showcase various ‘pipeline technologies’ and services featured within IoTX, The Big Data Show, the Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference (GISEC) and the Gulf Enterprise Mobility Exhibition & Conference (GEMEC). The show is supported by Dubai Smart Office as Smart City Partner to drive awareness on Dubai’s Smart City initiative.

With more than 6000 decision-makers, 500 delegates, 70 speakers and 100 exhibitors, IoTX at Future Technology Week will explore trends such as IoT blueprint technologies, connecting the unconnected, wearables, consumer behaviour, mitigating pervasive risks and disruptive hardware.

The event will feature an interactive conference, innovative tech exhibition, certified security training sessions, a Microsoft sponsored hackathon, capture the flag code breaking competition and entrepreneur platform called the Hive supported by Dubai SME, Wamda Capital and Astrolabs.

More than 1,500 regional business leaders are also expected to attend The Big Data Show, which will highlight technologies – including smart cities, industrial data, advanced analytics, industrial applications, big data security and big data at work – that adopt and improve big data and analytics practices and strategies.
The Big Data Show will also host the Microsoft sponsored second annual Hackathon held under three themes: Smart Transportation, Smart Environment and Smart Cities.

High-calibre speakers at the IoTX conference include Karine Dognin-Sauze, Deputy Mayor, Greater Lyon; Dr. Janusz Bryzsek, founder of Exo systems; Jonny Voon, Lead Technologist – Internet Technology, InnovateUK; Dilip Rahulan, Executive Chairman & CEO, Pacific Controls ; and Mark Hughes, President, BT Security Enterprise, BT Global Services; Eric Eifert, Senior Vice President – Managed Security Services, DarkMatter. Other key speakers include Geoff Moore, Chief Technology Officer, Red Solutions; Rutger Reman, President of Industry & Society, Ericsson Middle East; Safder Nazir, Regional Vice President, Huawei; Irfan Khan, Chief Technology Officer, SAP Global Customer Operations, amongst others.
