Get To Know: Ali Bahlooq, General Manager, Esharah Etisalat Security Solutions

What would you describe as your most memorable achievement?

I would say there were many memorable achievements, but the one most outstanding is making Esharah to become the secure systems provider for EXPO 2020, the biggest event ever in the Gulf region.

What first made you think of a career in technology?

Since my elementary school days, I was fascinated by computers, and I recall enrolling into a course at my school to learn more about computers and those lesson took place after school hours. It’s the desire to know more about something and in my case, it was computers and electronics.

What style of management philosophy do you employ with your current position?

There are many styles of management, it is changing from one industry to another with the recent pandemic around the world. Leaders need to apply a mix of management styles to be able to increase employee morale and keep the checks and balances in place. Empowered employees are the core of any successful organisation.

What do you think is the current hot technology talking point?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning will be the focus of humanity all over the world for the next decade. The two technologies will enable us to do more for ourselves and for others. The technologies touch all areas of people’s lives, and the impact is already being noticed now.

How do you deal with stress and unwind outside the office?

The definition of stress is the inability of the human body to deal with the specific situation at a specific time. The trick is to destress by eliminating the situation or reduce the time, I do this by both reading and through performing sports.

If you could go back and change one career decision, what would it be?

I don’t regret any career path and decision I have taken so I wouldn’t change anything.

What do you currently identify as the major areas of investment in your industry? Cybersecurity and Blockchain would be the two major investment areas for the next few years. Many countries have dedicated national goals to become pioneers in those areas.

What are the region-specific challenges when implementing new technologies in the Middle East?

The Middle East is like any region around the globe and rolling out a new technology requires trust-worthy suppliers and an abundant number of skilled people. Having all available is a challenging matter and that’s what needs to be addressed.

What advice would you offer somebody aspiring to obtain c-level position in your industry?

It is important to love what you do and faking a passion will not last for long. Keep increasing your stock of knowledge because what you know today will be obsolete very soon.
