{"id":21860,"date":"2017-12-20T23:40:05","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T19:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/me\/?p=21860"},"modified":"2018-06-12T08:35:57","modified_gmt":"2018-06-12T07:35:57","slug":"size-isnt-everything-sophos-expert-says-its-not-just-the-big-companies-that-get-targeted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/me\/2017\/12\/20\/size-isnt-everything-sophos-expert-says-its-not-just-the-big-companies-that-get-targeted\/","title":{"rendered":"Size isn\u2019t everything: Sophos expert says it\u2019s not just the big companies that get targeted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An expert from Sophos believes that complacency is one of the biggest threats to the cybersecurity of enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Karl-Heinz Warum, a vice-president at Sophos, a global leader in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sophos.com\/en-us.aspx\">network and endpoint security<\/a>, \u00a0says companies are not taking threats seriously enough and make the mistake of thinking they are not big enough to be targeted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe major concern is companies don\u2019t take it seriously,\u201d said Warum. \u201cThe new gold is data and companies don\u2019t realise how to protect it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey leave the gold on the table and keep their fingers crossed that nobody will steal it, but that&#8217;s not the case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said some cybercriminals equip themselves with a laptop and busy themselves phishing and are quickly successful. All of a sudden they get all the data they want.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven the big companies didn&#8217;t realise that cybercrime is going to the next level,\u201d said Warum. \u201cBut the criminals don&#8217;t care how or where they steal the data \u2013 it\u2019s their business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sad thing is when you read the newspaper it\u2019s always mentioned if Microsoft is attacked or Amazon is attacked. Then everybody thinks it&#8217;s just the big ones that get hit so \u2018it won\u2019t be me\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He added that very often the cybercriminals are the ones using the most sophisticated approaches with the security of enterprises woefully inadequate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bad guys are using the latest and greatest technology,\u201d he said. \u201cSometimes if we look at the protection of an end-user, it looks like they are going with a knife to a gunfight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year in June, Sophos was named as a Leader in Gartner Inc.\u2019s<a href=\"https:\/\/secure2.sophos.com\/en-us\/security-news-trends\/reports\/gartner\/magic-quadrant-utm.aspx\"> \u2018Magic Quadrant for Unified Threat Management (SMB Multifunction Firewalls)<\/a>\u2019 and in July as a Visionary in Gartner Inc.\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/secure2.sophos.com\/ja-jp\/security-news-trends\/reports\/gartner\/gartner-magic-quadrant-for-enterprise-network-firewalls.aspx\">\u2018Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Network Firewalls.<\/a>\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In June this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsslabs.com\/\">NSS Labs<\/a> rated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sophos.com\/en-us\/products\/next-gen-firewall.aspx\">Sophos XG Firewall<\/a> as one of the best performing in the industry in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sophos.com\/en-us\/lp\/nss-labs-firewall-test.aspx\">Next Generation Firewall Group Test Report<\/a> .
