With Qatar International Islamic Bank needing to ensure the 24.7.365 availability of critical data, it turned to Veeam to over come the challenges of slow backup and recovery. QIIB replaced its legacy backup system with Veeam Availability Suite with the benefit of increased backup and recovery speed. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) remains true to its\nQatari heritage and values. QIIB\u2019s family-friendly attitude and personal\napproach are just a few of the many reasons customers choose QIIB as a banking\npartner for their personal and business needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before launching new services, QIIB tests them for six to eight\nmonths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The test environment makes up 60% of QIIB\u2019s IT\ninfrastructure, and the production environment, which supports all banking\noperations, comprises 40%. Critical data in both environments must be available\n24.7.365 for QIIB to provide efficient transactional banking and a positive\ncustomer experience. Slow back-up and recovery of critical data put the IT team\non high alert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSlow backup and recovery made it\nchallenging for us to ensure critical data was available at all times,\u201d\nsaid Nasser Hasan Mahmoud, Chief Information Officer at QIIB. \u201cHow could we\ntell the executive team that slow backup and recovery might delay the testing\nand launch of a new service or prevent customers from completing their mobile\ntransactions?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solution <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

QIIB replaced legacy backup with Veeam Availability Suite.\nOne year later, QIIB received a Banking Excellence Award from the World Union\nof Arab Bankers for excellence in straight-through transactional processing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVeeam was definitely one of the reasons we won this award,\u201d\nMahmoud said. \u201cBackup speed increased by 75% and recovery speed increased by 92%\nthanks to integration between Veeam and Dell EMC VNX, our primary storage.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veeam delivers 24.7.365 availability of QIIB\u2019s critical data,\nenabling the bank to provide customers with fast, efficient banking solutions\nand a positive banking experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVeeam helps us deliver seamless, personalised service to\ncustomers, and Veeam supports the development and testing of new banking\nproducts,\u201d Mahmoud said. \u201cWe learned this very quickly during Veeam\u2019s proof of\nconcept.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the proof of concept, Veeam dramatically improved\nrecovery speed of the bank\u2019s virtual machines. QIIB restored them from a backup\nin three hours. Mahmoud said restoring them with legacy backup would have taken\nthree days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when we knew Veeam was the best solution for us,\u201d\nMahmoud said. \u201cIf we hadn\u2019t been using Veeam at the time, we might have lost\npart of our testing environment, which would have delayed each product launch\nby at least one month. That\u2019s bad for the business and our customers.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veeam has also proven to be user-friendly and has made the company\nmore efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVeeam is so easy to use and so reliable that we no longer\nneed a full-time backup administrator,\u201d Mahmoud said. \u201cOur backup administrator\nspends less than half his time on backup because of Veeam, so he spends the\nrest of his time on server and storage maintenance.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veeam also saves on agent fees. By replacing legacy backup\nwith Veeam, QIIB saved significant money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mahmoud said the bank has full confidence in Veeam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVeeam instils confidence immediately,\u201d he said. \u201cWe know\nour critical data is being backed up quickly and reliably, and we know we can\nrecover from our backups. Veeam makes life easier.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
