Recent Gartner research found that\nmanagers of inclusive technology teams were more likely to say their teams\noutperformed non-inclusive teams in all seven measures studied, including\nimplementing new ideas and making timely decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early exposure to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/gartner-top-5-security-and-risk-management-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">security\nand risk management<\/a>&nbsp;disciplines develops more qualified candidates\nand provides professional support for&nbsp;gender parity.&nbsp;Gartner\nrecommends that companies target women while they\u2019re still in school to sell\nthem on a career in security and risk management. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGrow the general workforce pipeline for security and risk\nmanagement by partnering with primary, secondary and higher educational\ninstitutions to introduce young women to the security and risk management\nprofessions,\u201d said Witty. \u201cDo not focus only on technical educational programmes;\napproach liberal arts and communications academic programmes to ensure that\nfemales understand the value of a security and risk management career choice.\u201d<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Retain diverse talent<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women find security and risk management\nprofessions to be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/5-security-roles-to-plan-for-in-the-digital-era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">excellent\ncareer paths<\/a>, according to the survey. However, concerted efforts must be\ntaken to retain them; otherwise, women may leave their positions to find a\ntransparent and supportive work environment elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Respondents believe sponsoring and mentoring&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/high-potential-employees-want-chances-to-grow-and-learn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">high-potential\nwomen<\/a>&nbsp;will improve the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/10-absolute-truths-about-talent-management-in-digital-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recruitment&nbsp;<\/a>and\nretention&nbsp;of women in security and risk management. Diversity task forces\nare extremely important, but mandatory diversity training, job tests and\ngrievance systems are not perceived as beneficial for organisational diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>People want to work where they know they will be\naccepted and respected for their unique background<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Implement gender-blind recruiting practices and\ntraining to mitigate gender discrimination and use retention practices that\npromote women to top leadership and executive positions. Providing work-life\nbalance practices such as flexible work hours is a competitive differentiator\nin the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/gartner-quarterly-update-on-global-workforce-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">labour\nmarket<\/a>&nbsp;that can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/smarterwithgartner\/make-sure-new-hires-dont-regret-taking-your-job-offer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">improve the\nretention<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;recruitment&nbsp;of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People want to work where they know they will be\naccepted and respected for their unique background, skills and\nknowledge.&nbsp;It is a win-win situation for all parties.
