{"id":43395,"date":"2019-11-14T09:18:55","date_gmt":"2019-11-14T09:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/me\/?p=43395"},"modified":"2019-11-14T09:18:58","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T09:18:58","slug":"uae-working-on-cybersecurity-policy-for-cloud-based-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/me\/2019\/11\/14\/uae-working-on-cybersecurity-policy-for-cloud-based-future\/","title":{"rendered":"UAE working on cybersecurity policy for cloud-based future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The UAE\u2019s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is\nworking on cybersecurity policy for a cloud-based future, according to <a>Eng Abdulrahman Almarzouqi, Director of Cybersecurity, TRA<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEverything will be moving to the cloud, and so the security\nof the cloud is very important,\u201d said Almarzouqi, speaking at the Gartner\nSecurity &amp; Risk Management Summit in Dubai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al<a>marzouqi<\/a> said that the TRA is\nworking on a comprehensive policy for cloud security, including for public and\nprivate use. Organisations are likely to implement their cloud strategies\ngradually, and Almarzouqi said private companies could classify their data and\nbegin migrating to the cloud by moving their least critical data first. As they\ngain in cloud confidence, they could then move more of their data to the cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almarzouqi also confirmed that the TRA is looking at the cybersecurity\naspects of other fast developing technologies including IoT, AI and Big Data.\nThe TRA is actively working with other organisations including international\nbodies such as the International Telecommunications Union to ensure that its\npolicies are in line with international standards and practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of preventing cyberbreaches, Almarzouqi said that\nuser awareness is a key priority. Social engineering is \u2018the number-1 way\u2019 that\ncybercriminals penetrate user information and assets. Awareness of the need to\nhave multi-factor authentication and strong passwords is vital to preventing\ncyberattacks, according to Almarzouqi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middle East and North Africa (MENA) enterprise information\nsecurity and risk management spending will total US$1.7 billion in 2020, an\nincrease of 10.7% from 2019, according to a recent forecast by Gartner, Inc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe double-digit growth is a reflection of how organisations\nin MENA region are coming up to speed with their global counterparts in\nadopting information security and risk management solutions,\u201d said Sam Olyaei, Research\nDirector at Gartner. \u201cMore importantly, an evolving threat landscape and the\nadvent of Digital Transformation is forcing local security and risk leaders to\nre-evaluate their spending priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UAE\u2019s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is working on cybersecurity policy for a cloud-based future, according to Eng Abdulrahman Almarzouqi, Director of Cybersecurity, TRA. \u201cEverything will be moving to the cloud, and so the security of the cloud is very important,\u201d said Almarzouqi, speaking at the Gartner Security &amp; Risk Management Summit in Dubai.
