The RIPE\nNetwork Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), in co-operation with the Telecommunications\nRegulatory Authority (TRA) in the UAE, have held a roundtable discussion dedicated\nto Arab ICT ministries and regulators on \u2018The Role of Arab Governments in Internet\nDevelopment.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\ndiscussion put the spotlight on current opportunities and challenges in the\nMiddle East in managing Internet resources and highlighted new developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The roundtable\nwas attended by representatives from several Arab countries, including: UAE, KSA,\nKuwait, Bahrain, Yemen and Egypt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
H.E. Hamad\nObaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: \u201cWe have important strategic\nissues to examine and discuss, we have a lot of headlines that represent\nopportunities and challenges at the same time. These include the future of the Internet\nin light of the growing scope of users across the region and the implementation\nof IPv6 and the consequent necessities of co-ordination and mutual benefit from\nexpertise and experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Salam Yamout, Board Member,\nRIPE NCC, added: \u201cThe RIPE NCC is committed to working with stakeholders, including\ngovernments in the region, to advance and develop the Internet, and to support\nthem with the necessary technical expertise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe commend the work of the TRA in UAE\nand its role in developing new initiatives to support the development of\nInternet and economic growth in the region.
