The Digital Grid Centre in Abu Dhabi is a collaborative space for development, demonstration and testing of digital technology in energy systems, which focuses on the core pillars of digitalisation including cybersecurity, Digital Twins and the Internet of Things.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siemens has opened a Digital Grid Centre in Abu Dhabi, UAE, to advance the digitalisation\nof energy systems in the Middle East, supporting smarter cities and industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre enables\nSiemens to collaborate with customers in developing, demonstrating and testing\ndigital energy solutions, and provides remote support for the utilities, oil and\ngas, industrial and infrastructure sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using lab simulations and live data connections, the Digital\nGrid Centre enables\nSiemens to remotely provide service and support for customer operations,\nincluding preventative and corrective maintenance, simulation and testing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, customers will be able to witness Factory\nAcceptance Tests conducted abroad without needing to travel, using a live\nremote monitoring system to ensure equipment is ready to be installed on-site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur energy systems are evolving as decentralisation and a\ndiversifying energy mix impose greater complexity on our electricity grids,\u201d\nsaid Franco Atassi, Head of Smart Infrastructure for Siemens in the Middle\nEast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cManaging and protecting these intricate energy systems\nrequires intelligent application of digital technologies, and our Digital Grid Centre directly addresses this challenge.\nWe will use the centre to support\nour customers in their Digital Transformation, working together to develop and\nimplement technology for smarter cities and industries in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a dedicated team of engineers, the centre focuses on six pillars of digitalisation:\nRemote collaboration, cloud and data (IoT), cybersecurity, digital substation,\nDigital Twin and energy efficiency analytics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre\ndemonstrates the potential of connecting energy systems to the Internet of\nThings (IoT), capturing data for consolidation, visualisation and analysis in a\ncloud-based operating system such as Siemens\u2019 MindSphere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

MindSphere enables the connection of products, plants,\nsystems and machines to the Internet of Things, deriving real-world value from\ndata using advanced analytics. The Digital Grid Centre will show how these\ntechnologies can turn Big Data\ninto smart data, unlocking greater potential from energy networks to improve\nreliability, efficiency and grid safety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customers will also be able to experience how Digital Twin technology\ncan replicate physical grid infrastructure in the virtual world, simulating the\nperformance of energy networks before they are constructed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insights from these Digital Twins can then be used to support\nthe planning and design of grids for long-term reliability, performance and\ncost efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybersecurity is a core element of the Digital Grid Centre. Operational Technology (OT) is a\nrapidly growing target for cyberattacks and the\nprotection of critical infrastructure requires a holistic, always-active\napproach to security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siemens offers comprehensive cybersecurity services for\nindustry, utilities and power grid operators and the Digital Grid Centre allows customers to embrace Digital\nTransformation while keeping data and equipment secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The centre joins the\ncompany\u2019s MindSphere Application Centres in UAE,\nSaudi Arabia and Egypt as part of an on-going regional investment into digitalisation.\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
