Mark Cleary, Senior Director Analyst, Gartner, supports the idea of turning digital disruption into infrastructure-led disruption as this leads to business value. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infrastructure and operations (I&O) leaders have a\nunique opportunity in deciding what role they will play when Digital\nTransformation takes place within the context of technology disruption: Move to\nthe forefront of infrastructure-led disruption or remain custodians of legacy\ninfrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infrastructure-led disruption<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInfrastructure-led disruption leads to business\nvalue,\u201d said Mark Cleary, Senior Director Analyst at Gartner. \u201cThe days of\nrisk-averse cultures are being swept away as I&O leaders recognise the\nvalue of speed and agility in managing new technology, new ways of working and\nculture changes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gartner predicts three things that will support\ninfrastructure-led disruption and must be considered by I&O leaders to\nevolve for the future:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional IT service management (ITSM) will be made\nredundant <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional I&O organisations are facing pressure\nto adopt agile practices to deliver greater value and better adhere to\ncompliance frameworks. Current ITSM environments will face similar pressure to\ndevelop a more adaptable approach to delivering service, challenging the status\nquo of risk-averse and non-dynamic behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one-size-fits-all philosophy regularly seen with\nITSM, where every action is made to fit a fixed set of procedural steps\nregardless of business need, will no longer be acceptable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditional ITSM teams that do not recognise or support\nthese changes are likely to become redundant. The key is to redesign and\noptimise ITSM processes to be adaptable for different circumstances and meet\nkey organisational objectives (e.g. improve the time to market, decrease cost\nof operation, and maintain stability and resilience).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hybrid digital infrastructure management (HDIM)\nemerges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the realities of hybrid digital infrastructures\nkick in, the scale and complexity of managing them is becoming a more pressing\nissue for IT leaders. External services from\ncolocation, cloud providers, edge environments and the Internet of Things (IoT)\nare being added to the traditional data centre infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HDIM addresses the key pain points of operational\nprocess, skills and tools that come with hybrid infrastructures. At present,\nthe HDIM market is in the very early stages of development, but 20% of\nenterprises are expected to use HDIM tools to optimise workload placement by\n2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business leaders will increasingly rely on AIOps\nplatforms for decision making <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

AIOps is gaining relevance within the enterprise to\ncontextualise data coming from multiple sources but its technology is still\nemergent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlongside improving I&O maturity and skills, data\nquality will become a major focus for the enterprise,\u201d said Cleary. \u201cEnable\nI&O teams to leverage cross-domain data through AIOps, including customer\ndata that can be overlaid with data from other sources, to help identify\nfactors pertinent to the business.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
