Qatar has gone live with its first internet exchange to improve\nits global connectivity ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Launched\nby the country\u2019s Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), the Qatar Internet\nExchange Point (QIXP) is established in MEEZA\u2019s data centre in Doha, and will\nenable local networks to exchange information efficiently at a common point\nwithin the country, instead of exchanging the local information outside it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\nhelps ensure that internet users in Qatar have faster and more secure access to\ndigital content as MEEZA is a local IT solutions provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
QIXP\nis deemed of strategic importance in terms of information security and internet\ninfrastructure stability and sustainability in Qatar, and for supporting major\nevents such as the World Cup in 2022, said Qatar\u2019s government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdulla\nJassmi, Technical Affairs Department Manager for the CRA and QIXP Committee\nChairman, said: \u201cThe committee will continue to work as a team to follow up on\nthe progress of QIXP, in order to meet the market requirements of providing\nadvanced and innovative services to contribute to achieving the goals of the\nQatar National Vision 2030.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
