The R\u00e9seaux IP Europ\u00e9ens Network Co-ordination Centre (RIPE\nNCC) and the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Oman has joined\nforces to host a three-day training workshop as part of their collaboration on\ncapacity development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Held in Oman\u2019s capital city, the event was organised to build\nthe capacities of local stakeholders and assist them in the development of the\nInternet in the country. Local Internet Registries (LIRs), the RIPE Database\nand the fundamentals of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) were the three main\ntraining courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the LIR training on the first day, the attendees\nlearned about the administrative procedures and policies related to managing\nInternet number resources and operating an LIR. The course also included a\nbasic introduction to the RIPE Database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the second day, the purpose and objectives of the RIPE\nDatabase were expounded where participants were taught about the functions,\nscope and importance of the RIPE Database. They learned how it works and how to\nupdate it. They also took part in various exercises and demonstrations that\nallowed them to practice their newly learned skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last and final day saw the participants tackling the\nbasics of IPv6. This training course elaborated on the imminent IPv4 run-out,\nthe necessity to switch to IPv6, and how to prepare for the deployment of IPv6.\nOman is the third country in the region to have started the implementation of\nIPv6 following Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eng. Mohammed Al-Kindy, Vice President, TRA Oman, said:\n\u201cHosting the three-day workshop at our training centre was critical to\nexpanding Internet connectivity in the country. Efforts toward this direction\nhave been in full swing in Oman and we seek to fast-track our initiatives\nfurther. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
