{"id":30090,"date":"2023-07-05T12:48:22","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T11:48:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/north-america\/?p=30090"},"modified":"2023-07-12T10:05:23","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T09:05:23","slug":"accelerating-the-software-defined-vehicle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/north-america\/2023\/07\/05\/accelerating-the-software-defined-vehicle\/","title":{"rendered":"Accelerating the software defined vehicle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Wind River and Samsung Electronics driving development for the&nbsp;software-defined vehicles of the future.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fresh from being listed as one of the world\u2019s \u2018most loved\u2019 workplaces, Wind River confirms a collaboration with Samsung Electronics\u2019 System LSI business to accelerate the software-defined vehicle, including development of high-quality in-vehicle infotainment (IVI)&nbsp;solutions,&nbsp;cabin&nbsp;monitoring&nbsp;and advanced driver-assistance&nbsp;features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The automotive industry is evolving toward the software-defined vehicle, in which more features and functions are enabled primarily through software that can be updated quickly and easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ensuring that developers have superior tools, processes and structures to create, test and update that software efficiently is a top priority for the entire industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help drive this evolution, Wind River and Samsung will collaborate to provide customers with Wind River technology on Samsung\u2019s Exynos Auto V920 chipset &#8211; a fully integrated software and hardware solution for automotive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This integration will use Wind River Helix Virtualization Platform, a safety certifiable multi-core, multi-OS platform allowing end users to mix a diverse set of runtime environments, safe and\/or non-safe, including the VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), Linux and Android.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA new software-defined approach is required for designing and developing the high-performance compute systems needed for connected, autonomous and electric vehicles,\u201d said Avijit Sinha, Chief Product Officer, Wind River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur collaboration with Samsung enables OEMs and Tier 1\u2019s to leverage our four decades of experience in developing safety-critical applications for aerospace and defense, industrial, medical and telecommunications customers toward building the certified, mixed-criticality software systems that are essential for the software-defined vehicles of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hyeokman Kwon, Vice President of System LSI marketing, Samsung Electronics, said: \u201cOur latest 5nm automotive processor, Exynos Auto V920, offers powerful and intelligent performance&nbsp;for a new level of in-vehicle experience with safer driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s able to run multiple applications on multiple VMs simultaneously in a highly power-efficient manner, satisfying the industry\u2019s low power consumption demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur close collaboration with Wind River allows us to enhance our industry-leading IVI development work and further expand into multiple safety-critical domains with Wind River leading runtime environments, including VxWorks and Helix Platform.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Samsung collaboration was confirmed within days of Wind River outlining a collaboration with Juniper Networks to cut TCO for vRAN and ORAN deployments with a combined solution &#8211; as communications service providers (CSPs) look to implement virtualized and Open RAN in their networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a co-authored blog post, Randy Cox, Vice President, Product Management, Intelligent Cloud, Wind River and Mathias Kokot,&nbsp;Vice President, PLM Software, Juniper, said the combined solution of the Juniper Cloud-Native Router plus Wind River Studio provided &nbsp;multiple opportunities for cost savings at the edge with the ability to consolidate what would otherwise be multiple pieces of hardware down to one or two servers at a far edge site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, they said, reduces not only the initial purchase of hardware but also saves on ongoing power, cooling and space costs.
