{"id":3033,"date":"2020-12-17T10:22:12","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T10:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/north-america\/?p=3033"},"modified":"2020-12-22T10:29:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T10:29:30","slug":"firstnet-delivers-mission-critical-mobility-services-to-fbi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/north-america\/2020\/12\/17\/firstnet-delivers-mission-critical-mobility-services-to-fbi\/","title":{"rendered":"FirstNet delivers mission-critical mobility services to FBI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is supporting its day-to-day and emergency operations by expanding its usage of mobile services from FirstNet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An agreement, valued at approximately US$92 million, is the largest commitment to FirstNet by a law enforcement or public safety agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FirstNet, built by AT&amp;T, is the only nationwide, high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for America\u2019s first responders and the extended public safety community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It gives first responders always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and pre-emption across voice and data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During an emergency, if network resources are scarce or unavailable, FirstNet\u2019s pre-emption capability will automatically push non-emergency users to other bands of spectrum to allow critical law enforcement resources, like the FBI, to maintain access to their voice and data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FBI will access FirstNet using FirstNet Ready devices such as smartphones, air cards and modems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ed Parkinson,&nbsp;CEO of the FirstNet Authority, said: \u201cFirstNet was built with and for all of public safety \u2013 including our Federal first responders. We are pleased to see the DOJ expand its use of the network platform to connect more agencies within the law enforcement community. The FirstNet Authority looks forward to continuing to work with the department to advance and enhance FirstNet for federal law enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stacy Schwartz,&nbsp;Vice President, FirstNet Program at AT&amp;T, said: \u201cThe FBI\u2019s award to AT&amp;T is testament to FirstNet\u2019s law enforcement-specific attributes. We\u2019re enormously proud to help the FBI and other DOJ agencies expand their FirstNet usage in support of their critical work to keep us safe and protect our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several DOJ agencies have been using FirstNet, including the Antitrust Division; Drug Enforcement Administration; Executive Office of US. Attorneys; Justice Management Division; US. Attorneys; US. Marshals Service; and The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which was the first federal agency&nbsp;to fully adopt FirstNet in 2018 with approximately 4,800 users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the FBI\u2019s new agreement with AT&amp;T, these DOJ agencies can expand their usage of FirstNet while others can choose to begin benefiting from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FirstNet is built by AT&amp;T in public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) \u2013 an independent agency within the federal government. The FirstNet network is providing public safety with truly dedicated coverage and capacity when needed, unique benefits like always-on priority and pre-emption, and high-quality Band 14 spectrum. These advanced capabilities enable FirstNet to perform faster than any commercial network&nbsp;and help fire, EMS and law enforcement save lives and protect their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of September 30, 2020, there were more than 14,000 public safety agencies and organizations across the country \u2013 representing more than 1.7 million FirstNet connections \u2013 subscribed to FirstNet.
