Demand for high-speed home connectivity continues to rise as consumers adopt bandwidth-intensive applications such as cloud gaming, AI-powered services, ultra-high-definition streaming and connected smart home systems.

At the same time, operators face mounting costs associated with fibre rollouts, especially in suburban and rural regions where infrastructure deployment can be economically challenging.

Broadcom and Samsung believe fixed wireless access can help bridge that gap.

“We are highlighting that the future of home Internet can be both accessible and affordable,” said Joonsuk Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of CP Development, Samsung Electronics. “This platform is designed to deliver reliable performance across a wide range of environments, helping operators bring high-quality connectivity experiences to subscribers.”

The companies argue that combining advanced 5G and Wi-Fi technologies into a tightly integrated platform can help operators accelerate service deployment while reducing complexity and hardware costs.

The Broadcom BCM6776 is designed as a tri-band Wi-Fi 8 SoC targeting high-volume retail and mass-market access points. It integrates a quad-core Arm processor with Wi-Fi 8 radio capabilities, allowing device manufacturers to consolidate components and reduce system power consumption.

According to Broadcom, the design can deliver a 50% reduction in active power consumption compared to previous generations while simplifying board design and lowering bill of materials costs.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s B1320 modem introduces 3GPP Release 17 support with 5G downlink speeds of up to 3.43 Gbps and uplink speeds of 1.17 Gbps.

The modem also supports satellite communications standards including NR-NTN and NB-NTN, reflecting growing industry interest in hybrid terrestrial and non-terrestrial network architectures.

Together, the companies say the platform supports full Wi-Fi-to-5G throughput while creating a scalable foundation for next-generation customer premises equipment (CPE).

The wider significance of the launch extends beyond raw speeds and hardware specifications.

The fixed wireless access market has evolved rapidly over the past five years as operators seek alternatives to expensive fibre deployments. What was once viewed primarily as a connectivity solution for underserved rural communities is increasingly becoming part of mainstream broadband strategies worldwide.

Analysts point to improvements in 5G performance, spectrum efficiency and antenna technologies as key drivers behind this transition.

Wi-Fi 8 is also expected to play a major role in that evolution.

Although still emerging, Wi-Fi 8 focuses heavily on reliability, low latency and coordinated performance rather than simply increasing headline throughput speeds. This is particularly important for households where multiple devices simultaneously consume bandwidth-intensive services.

Broadcom says its integrated architecture is intended to optimise traffic handling and reduce congestion while maintaining stable connections across different areas of the home.

That reliability focus may become increasingly important as AI-driven applications and connected devices place greater pressure on residential networks.

Consumers now expect enterprise-grade connectivity experiences within their homes, especially as remote work, cloud collaboration and immersive digital services continue to grow.

For operators, this creates both opportunity and pressure.

Fixed wireless access offers a potentially faster and more flexible deployment model than fibre, but service quality remains critical if operators are to compete effectively against traditional wired broadband providers.

The launch is also notable because of the broader ecosystem support surrounding the platform.

Broadcom and Samsung confirmed that multiple original equipment manufacturers are already integrating the technology into next-generation gateway products.

Among them is HUMAX Networks, which says it has already demonstrated an integrated Wi-Fi 8 solution using Samsung and Broadcom technology.

“HUMAX Networks is delighted to pioneer the next-generation 5G CPE market alongside global technology leaders Broadcom and Samsung,” said Jerry Lee, CEO, Humax Networks.

“At the recent MWC 2026, we successfully showcased the industry’s first Wi-Fi 8 solution, which integrates Samsung’s cutting-edge 5G technology with Broadcom’s next-generation silicon.”

Taiwan-based WNC is also collaborating on next-generation gateway products targeting cable broadband and FWA markets.

The involvement of major OEM partners demonstrates how rapidly the industry is preparing for Wi-Fi 8 commercialisation despite the standard still being in development.

Industry vendors believe Wi-Fi 8 will become increasingly important as AI-powered applications and connected devices consume greater amounts of bandwidth.

The collaboration between Broadcom and Samsung also reflects a wider convergence taking place across the networking industry.

Historically, mobile and home networking technologies often evolved separately, with telecoms operators and Wi-Fi vendors focusing on different priorities.

However, the rise of fixed wireless access is forcing greater integration between cellular and home networking infrastructure.

Operators increasingly want platforms that unify connectivity technologies into simplified deployment models capable of supporting high-performance broadband services.

Broadcom’s integrated SoC strategy is intended to address that demand by reducing hardware fragmentation while giving operators flexibility to customise services and applications.

The platform’s support for satellite communications also signals how connectivity strategies are broadening beyond conventional terrestrial infrastructure.

Satellite-enabled networking is becoming an increasingly important component of telecoms planning, particularly for remote coverage, resilience and emergency connectivity.

The emergence of integrated 5G and Wi-Fi 8 platforms also highlights the growing importance of Digital Transformation initiatives across the telecommunications industry.

Operators are under increasing pressure to modernise infrastructure while managing operational costs and delivering improved customer experiences.

Advanced broadband platforms capable of supporting AI-enabled services, edge computing and smart home ecosystems are becoming central to those strategies.

Broadcom and Samsung are clearly positioning their collaboration as part of that broader industry transition.

“Broadcom is proud to lead the Wi-Fi 8 transition alongside Samsung and our valued ODM partners,” said Vijay Nagarajan, Vice President of Marketing, Wireless and Broadband Communications Division, Broadcom.

“This partnership is a game-changer for the FWA market.”

Whether fixed wireless access ultimately becomes a true alternative to fibre at global scale remains a subject of debate within the industry.

However, the pace of investment and innovation surrounding advanced wireless broadband platforms suggests operators increasingly view FWA as a long-term strategic opportunity rather than a temporary solution.

As broadband demand continues to accelerate worldwide, the companies that successfully combine performance, affordability and deployment flexibility are likely to play a central role in shaping the future of home Internet connectivity.

Broadcom and Samsung Electronics are betting that the next phase of broadband growth will come from fixed wireless access powered by advanced 5G and Wi-Fi 8 technologies, as operators search for more cost-effective ways to deliver fibre-like Internet experiences.
