Odyssey Logistics has achieved 37% net cost savings and increased software development throughput by approximately a third after deploying autonomous AI engineering technology from Cognition and Cognizant to modernize its legacy transportation management systems.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odyssey Logistics has deployed autonomous artificial intelligence engineering technology to modernize its transportation management platform, achieving 37% net cost savings compared with a conventional development approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The global logistics provider worked with Cognizant and Cognition to rebuild legacy applications as cloud-native software, using Cognition’s Devin AI software engineer alongside a team of Cognizant developers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project forms part of Odyssey’s wider technology modernization strategy and supports the development of its OdysseyONE platform, which is intended to consolidate order intake, shipment execution, visibility and lifecycle management across its logistics network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odyssey operates a freight network valued at more than US$3 billion, serving industrial customers across sectors including chemicals, metals and food-grade products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company’s existing transportation management processes relied on legacy Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications forms. These systems contained business-critical workflow logic but presented challenges around scalability, maintenance and integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odyssey needed to migrate these applications while preserving existing business rules and operating within a fixed budget and delivery schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A seven-person Cognizant engineering team used Devin to automate elements of the conversion process, including rebuilding legacy forms as cloud-native applications and generating software tests, deployment pipelines and technical documentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AI system was used to plan, write and test code across multiple development tasks, working alongside human engineers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To maintain oversight, every proposed change was reviewed and approved by a Cognizant technical lead or architect before being incorporated into the software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the companies, the approach increased development throughput by approximately one-third while delivering 37% net cost savings against the conventional approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current phase of the modernization program is in production, with further development continuing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maneet Singh, CIO and CDO at Odyssey Logistics, said: “Modernization only matters if it changes the business outcome. For us, this was about moving faster without compromising discipline. Cognizant and Cognition helped us turn a complex legacy rebuild into a practical, governed path to production, with clear accountability around every change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That is the model we are applying more broadly across Odyssey now: use AI where it creates measurable value, keep people in control of the decisions that matter and make technology a driver of business performance, not just an IT project.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before committing to the wider transportation management modernization program, Odyssey tested the approach on a separate standalone legacy application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That initial project was completed 21 days after work began, providing the company with evidence that autonomous AI engineering could support a larger and more complex transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results encouraged Odyssey to apply the same development model to its transportation management platform, where the technology is now supporting production systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cognizant and Cognition have collaborated since 2024 and formalized an AI engineering partnership in January 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their combined approach brings together Cognition’s autonomous software engineering technology and Cognizant’s enterprise engineering, governance and delivery capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cognizant has trained more than 3,000 employees to use Devin and reports that the technology has reduced the time required to produce release-ready code by more than 50% in its own engineering work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company also reports that Devin has accelerated development of new software applications by between five and six times, based on internal data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond legacy application modernization, the two companies are developing capabilities covering automated software testing, application upgrades and cybersecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their joint offerings include tools designed to identify gaps in test coverage, generate test cases and automate elements of software migration and maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The companies also intend to explore further applications in security remediation, AI assurance, application observability and new software development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Odyssey Logistics, the deployment demonstrates how autonomous AI engineering can be integrated into enterprise modernization programs while retaining human oversight of critical technical decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
